2007 study: Babies' ability to learn language from live presentations compared to televised programs

Findings: Babies 15 to 24 months olds were best able to learn new words from an adult speaker giving a live, in-person presentation. When the same presentation was shown on television, the babies were not as successful learning the new words, and they were even less successful in learning new words from the children's television program Teletubbies. Children under 22 months were entirely unable to learn new words from television programs. Read more
