Q: I’m
still really early in my pregnancy -- 10 weeks -- but my pre-pg pants just aren’t
comfy. Is it way too early to be hitting
the maternity section?
Erika Lenkert: At 10 weeks I'd already packed on
a cuddly 10 pounds, so believe me when I say I know what you mean!
Whether you hit the maternity
section or otherwise, you have to do something
because the one way to guarantee your favorite duds won't be waiting for you
when you lose the baby weight is to stretch them beyond repair now.
Maternity clothing can be more
expensive than regular fashions and it's likely that at this stage your shape
is more plump than prego, so you might consider buying or borrowing a couple of
regular items in larger sizes now. You probably won't be able to wear them for that long, but you can turn to them
again post-partum.
However, there's nothing wrong
with getting into maternity gear the minute you learn you're pregnant, if you
want to. Just know that shopping maternity before you truly "pop"
means you're more likely to have to buy larger sizes later. (Hey! Another
excuse to shop!)
The most important thing is that
you're comfortable, physically and emotionally. And one surefire way to feel
good about yourself is to find comfy fashions that fit you and look good.
