Q: When will baby kick?

Posted Tuesday, March 06, 2007 10:22 PM

Q: I’m 16 weeks pregnant and can’t wait to feel my baby’s kicks! Will I be able to soon?

A: Yes! Those first flutters should be coming your way within the next few weeks -- usually between 16 and 22 weeks for first-time moms. They won’t feel like real kicks or jabs just yet, since baby still has plenty of room to move around. Early movements are very gentle and subtle. You may only notice them if you are sitting or lying quietly. They’re also harder to discern if you’re overweight or your placenta is anterior (on the front of your uterus, near the stomach). Plus, these early kicks can be infrequent. You might feel something tomorrow and then nothing for a few days. By the time you hit your third trimester, baby’s moves may be more predictable. And guess what? He’ll usually be most active right when you’re trying to go to sleep!

re: Q: When Will Baby Kick?

So for a second time mom do I feel kicking sooner? Because I'm almost 15 weeks and I can feel flutters already...

re: Q: When Will Baby Kick?

I'm 18 weeks and I THINK I have felt it a few times in the past couple of weeks. I will rest my hands on my lower abdomen in the evening and I feel movement (slight flutter) under my hand. I assume it is the baby. I know what gas is and I feel that too! I can't wait until I am SURE it is the baby. It's my first time and I'm so excited, I wish he/she would kick a little. :o)

re: Q: When Will Baby Kick?

I'm a little over 18 weeks and I don't think I've felt the baby move yet :(  At least if I did it wasn't really obvious - any tips on how to feel it quicker or more easily?  This is our first baby - and we are so excited!!!

re: Q: When Will Baby Kick?

I'm 19 weeks and first started feeling them at a little over 16 weeks. I'm fairly tiny and they say that you can feel them on the earlier side if you're small. Since week 18 I've started to feel movement more regularly, almost every day. yay!

re: Q: When Will Baby Kick?

I am 14 weeks and already felt movement. i was shocked because i didnt expect it for at least another month, but when i had an ultasound at 11 weeks, my baby was super active and the tech said she wouldnt be surprised if i felt the baby earlier than average. i cant believe it, so exciting

re: Q: When Will Baby Kick?

I started feeligng the baby on the 1st day of my 18th week.  The kicks were very special on that particular day because it was the second anniversary of my big brothers death.  I think the baby knew I needed some cheering up that day :o)

I am 19 weeks yesterday and am pretty sure I have been feeling flutters of movement. I can't be sure yet though and I HATE that... I am just going on that, that IS what I am feeling because it makes me happy, lol!

I am 19 weeks along, and we just found out today we are having a boy! This is our first baby and for the past two days i have felt almost like a flick in my belly. I know it's our baby just letting me know he's there! It's so fantastic!

I am 19 weeks and I noticed the kicks really early on, but now I really wonder if they were kicks since I haven't felt anything in the past week.  I hope to feel something soon!

re: Q: When Will Baby Kick?

I am 19 weeks and I started notices the fluttering feeling around week 17. This is my first, but I am also on the smaller-side. However, I'm actually not sure if what I'm feeling is movement, indigestion, gas, etc. Does anybody else feel the movement almost like when your stomach growls, but there is no sound attached? Almost like you're hungry and your stomach is growling?

I thought that I might be feeling something the last couple of days and then I had two huge sneezes tonight and immediately after felt some fluttering. I know what it was now. Baby telling me to knock off the sneezing!

re: Q: When Will Baby Kick?

I felt the baby either pushing slightly or stretching  on my right side on occasion for several days during 17 weeks ... it a weird feeling as if someone is pressing their finger on me lightly then let go!  I also felt like bubble wrap popping all over down there!

re: Q: When Will Baby Kick?

I am just 15 weeks.  I swear I felt the first movement 2 days ago while sitting on the floor at work.  It was a strange pushing sensation on my lower abdomen.  I actually had to take a deep breath after it happened.  Was this my baby's first movement?  Im new to the pregnancy world.  It was a great feeling though!!!

re: Q: When Will Baby Kick?

I am going to be 13 weeks tomorrow and I swear there is something moving in there already. I feel it mostly in the morning when I am laying in bed dreading getting ready for work!!! I know it is super early and I would pass it off as gas, but I am not bloated anymore at all (thank goodness!!). Do you think it is possible the baby I am feeling?

re: Q: When Will Baby Kick?

At our 9 week ultrasound the sonographer said our baby was very active & it would not surprise her if I felt something early on. My husband & I watched in amazement as it's arm & leg buds moved everywhere. I felt the faint flutters of our little one moving as early as 10 weeks. I'm now in my 19th week and I felt the first strong kicks today on the lower left side of my abdomen. I was so thrilled, I e-mailed my husband & called my Mama with the exciting news :) Just remember ladies everyone is different & when you begin to feel your baby move -you'll know it regardless of when others think you "should" feel it!

re: Q: When will baby kick?

Well I am 20 weeks now and I just last week started feeling the "butterflies." I was on vacation all week and I decided to clean my whole apt. I did a lot, and by the time I sat down to rest after all of it, the baby started moving. I guess it was like "Hey what happened to all the moving around out there?" It was amazing.

re: Q: When will baby kick?

I'm about 20 weeks and I haven't felt kicking yet, just fluttery motions. I do often get a foot in my left rib, however! xD When he's on my rib I can see my belly move. Very strange, but definitely exciting.

re: Q: When will baby kick?

I'm 19 weeks about to be 20 weeks, and I still haven't felt anything!  I keep thinking I feel something, but I really don't know what it feels like.  Our baby isn't very active, though.  During the ultrasounds, she just kind of chills there on her back.  It took forever to get her to move so we could tell if she was a girl or a boy.

re: Q: When will baby kick?

I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant for the first time with twin boys. I felt the flutters at 16 weeks and had kicks and jabs felt on the outside at 19 weeks, 3 days. There isn't much room in there for them so I usually feel at least one kick for each twin per day!

I could swear I felt a little flutter a few nights ago (14 weeks).  I woke up in the middle of the night and felt a little something like a fish swimming in my lower belly.  It was great and I can't wait to feel it again and more often.

I began to feel the baby right at about 12 weeks. i felt my son move for the first time at 14 weeks! I have very active babies!  On both ultrasounds I have had with this baby it will not hold still. Its constantly rolling and kicking and the sonographers get irritated! Ha!I have to lay really still at night and sometimes I can feel it! I cant wait to feel it all the time!

I am 19 weeks with my second pregnancy.  Disappointed i haven't been feeling a lot of movement though.  But if I lay very still on my back, I can feel a tiny little rumble near my pelvic area.  Try laying like that for a while.

Try drinking something really cold or hot then sit quietly and see if you don't feel something. This has worked for me since a little before my 16th week. Good Luck!

re: Q: When will baby kick?

I about 12 weeks 3 days and I have started feeling movements several days ago, it doesnt feel like kicks and I cant actually feel body parts but I do feel like a lump that moves really slow across my lower abdomen, its kind of hard to explain but there is def movement going on, baby is more active late at night when im relaxing but goes crazy when I cross my legs, she def lets me know that it is not comfortable for her lol! I didnt feel movement with my other children until 14 weeks and above so this is very different for me.

I'm 19 1/2 weeks and I've been feeling the flutters like crazy when I'm at my desk at work.  Apparently baby has figured out I'm ticklish.  I've only felt one solid kick.  Last week I bent over to pick something up and I got this jab.  I guess baby got cramped and was like, 'Mom, what the heck?'

re: Q: When will baby kick?

I am now 19 weeks along, but I started feeling the baby move at 16 weeks.  I don't understand why the bump is saying that you will have a hard time discerning movements if you are overweight.  I am overweight and I had no problem feeling the baby move.

re: Q: When will baby kick?

I am a mom of 3 & this is my fourth & it is a total different experience. I don't feel her as I did my other 3, I am worried almost every day I don't feel her. But I see her moving all around in ultrasound. So, I am calmed down while in the doctor office & within 24hrs I am scared again until my next visit. My mom tell me calm down.

I *think* I first felt him move at 15 weeks (the day after our wedding) in an arcade! It was two weeks later when I felt him again. Now it's 19 weeks and the little guy tumbles around several times a day!

Maybe try lying on your stomach in bed for a while. I've always felt him best like this (he likes to watch tv with me at 10 pm)!

I'm 19 weeks & haven't felt anything at all, but I have an anterior placenta.  My dr. says this is normal, but I could start feeling something any day now.  Also, I'm not overweight at all - so it really can just be different for everyone no matter how alike you are in other ways.

re: Q: When will baby kick?

Hi everybody! I am 13 weeks along, a first time mom and i felt the babys first kicks this morning! It feels just like some descriptions i've read that say "the flutter of butterfly wings" it is very suttle. For all you other mommy's who say you are around 13 weeks and not sure if that's what you felt because it's too soon, don't doubt yourself! You are very intune with your body and you are right, those are tiny baby kicks! During my ultra sound yesterday i was told that the baby was kicking like crazy and because i am so small i could very well start to feel them any time now. The sensation is unlike anything else i've ever felt, and that's how i know. Congradulations to all the mommy's who are enjoying the first kicks. And if it hasn't happened for you yet, it will soon. :)
