re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

i have a question. Today is Wednesday, last Friday i had a positive pregnancy test. i had a chemical pregnancy last month, so we were very excited that we conceived again. Obviously, my DH and i are nervous of miscarrying. my concerns are that my symptoms aren't like everyone else's. My nipples are very sensitive and sore; but, only one is turning darker. and i'm not nauseous, but i'm very bloated and burping a lot. Is this normal? My first OB appointment is next Tuesday and i don't want to be so anxious until then.

re: Q: Possible old clot between amnion and chorion @ 11 wks

At approx 6 weeks I had a small subchorionic hemmorhage. I bled for 2 hours , then it was over and the s.h. was not seen on u/s again.   At 11 weeks I bled (gushed)bright red blood and passed some very large clots (one the size of my hand). I thought I miscarried, but the next AM the baby was seen on u/s doing fine.  I had a f/u w/ perinatologist who said it looks like I have an old, large clot between the amnion and chorion.

Could the passing of those huge clots be related to the hemmorahage or the new clot?  Where would all that stuff come from?  What does this clot between the amnion and chorion mean for the baby?  What if the amnion and chorion are unable to fuse beacuse of this clot?

re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

I have a problem drinking regular milk & even with lactaid everytime I drink it I'd end up running to the bathroom.  I'm only 6 weeks pregnant & I do want to start drinking milk for my baby.  So is there a powder type of milk for pregnant women? I heard that Abbott produced powdered milk especially for pregnant women (in Asia countries) but I wonder if they have something like that over here.

Am I allowed to have caffeine once a day while pregnant?

Posted by sharinadine15    Tuesday, July 22, 2008 1:21 PM

After miscarriage

I have policystic ovarian syndrome, so in order to get pregnant I took provera to get my period and then clomid. Last year I got pregnant for the fort time in my life, I was 29 then. I had an premature delivery at 18 weeks, with contractionss and everything. When I went to see my doctor that morning I had back pains and a very light discharge and he told me I was already 3 cm dialated. I was in the hospital the whole day from 10 am I got there, started bleeding heavily two hours later and started having contractions at 11 and lost the baby at 4 pm and got a D&c at 9 pm. I lost a lot of blood and stayed the night at the hospital. Finally I got to the question... sorry. That was in march 12 and the doctor told me I needed to wait 3 months before conceiving again. I started taking provera a week ago, I took the fifth and final pill yesterday and today (7/25) I already got my period (wierd), so I should start taking clomid on the 28th, right? but I'm really afraid. Is there anyway I can prevent the same thing from happening again? I was really carefull with my pregnancy and still don't know what happened. I can't deal with the same thing again. Thanks

re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

I see my GYN next week for my annual appointment.  I'll be 10 DPO.  Would she be able to do a blood test to see if I am pregnant?  I know implantation can take up to 12 DPO, so I'm not sure if she would even agree to a blood test.  What do you think?

Thanks!

re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

I had surgery in May and my DH are going to start trying in September.  I took a lot of pain medications during my recovery and I haven't taken anything in last 30 days other than tylenol for occasional headaches.  Should this be a concern of mine when TTC?

Are there any benefits to delivering in water versus outside of it?  Also, is this type of birth a special one that needs to be requested? If so, how early?

re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

I am 6 weeks pregnant, I am a register nurse, yesterday  I was helping a pt remove her shoes, when I got up, I felt a sudden pain on my mid lower abdomen. It's a dull, 2-3/10, mostly constant pain. I'm having no cramping, no bleeding or any other discharge or symptom, it's just the pain.  I felt some relieve when I rest but it's coming back. What can it be? I'm scare, I don't get to see my MD until Nov 18. Is it something normal?

Thanks

re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

I have been feeling really weird lately and didn't know what was wrong with me, I talked to friends, family, and then looked online at pregnancy websites and everything pointed to me being pregnant (that is also what my friends and family were saying my symptoms sounded like). I took a test this morning and it said no. I am pretty bummed but if I am prego I would be five weeks now. Shouldn't a pregnancy test show you are pregnant by the time you are five weeks or is their something else going on? I have had a cyst on my ovaries once do you think that could be a problem again?

Weight Gain

I just entered my 15th week and i only gained maybe 4 lbs altogether so far. I was pretty average size to start off with before i became pregnant but i have friends and family who i have seen at the 15th week and they are or were much bigger than I am.. Is this a problem or am i just going to be gaining weight slower? Im just worried that the baby will be very small or somewhat unhealthy? Im eating all the right foods and i see a regular nutritionist but im still worried..

re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

Am 35 and have been TTC x8 months without success.   Progesterone 21, my labs, and husbands semen analysis all came back normal.  Also have been timing sex with the clear blue easy ovulation monitor.  My MD says to just keep trying and to come back in Feb '09 if no luck.  Am so frustrated and feel soo very depressed when my cycle comes.  Should we be doing anything else?

re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

i was given magnesium hydrochloride pill tablets after visiting the ER for some cramping, i was told to have a minor infection, but i live in germany and theyre form of treatment is severely different from home in the US, does that help the cramping? and is it harmful to take? i was told to take it three times a day, to help relax the placenta while it shifts and stretches.

I been went to do bloodwork biweekly since D&C last Aug 1st. My number kept go down until Oct 30. It stopped at number 2 and continue on number 2 and last Dec 5th, they told me that I am no longer Molar preg.. after Dec 29th they told me to start go do bloodwork monthly. I kind of not want wait one year to start trying again. I want start sooner. is it safe?

Ulcerative Collitis and pregnancy

I was diagnosed with ulcerative collitis 2 years ago. I am just stablizing now but still suffer from minor symptoms. I am taking Pentasa, Imuran and Iron supplements and B12  every day. My specialist says that I should just start trying to conceive but I am a little worried about the medication and the possibility of a flare up during pregnancy. What happens if that is the case? do they prescribe Prednisone while pregnant?

re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

I am 37 1/2 weeks pregnant. As of now my baby is transverse and facing my back....I was advised by my Dr. that I would have to be scheduled for a CLASSIC C/SECTION if the baby had not turned by next week (my understanding of a Classic C/Section is that you are cut horizontally instead of vertically, that it is a much more entailed surgery - longer surgery - more blood loss - more of a risk to mom). This is my 2nd child (my first is 2 years old and was born via emergency c-section). I know this is a BF group - but seems like someone here may be able to shed some light on a CLASSIC C/Section for me....any experiences etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks!

re: Chorio Plexus Cyst or CPC

At our 18 week ultrasound, we were told our baby has two chorio plexus cysts. There were no other "Soft markers" or abnormalities noted. Our early screening tests put us in a very low risk catagory. What is your opinion on getting an amniocentesis in this situation?

re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

I had slight bleeding, only when i wiped, then little (gross but the only way i can describe it) brownish, pinkish snot lite things. The past 3 nights (only) they got bigger about the size of a m&m. Went to the Dr. she did blood work on Monday (3/30/09) and my hormone levels were @ 74,000, went back yesterday (4/02/09) and my hormone levels dropped to 70,000, she said they should have doubled. I'm scared and worried dont really know what this means or what to expect??? I'm 10wks. 3 days.

re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

We recently found out my husband is lactose intolerant.  My 8 year old daugher has been all her life.  Our family has switched completely to soy milk.  I was cautioned by one of my friends that I should not be drinking soy milk while pregnant.  This is the first time I have heard this.  I actually prefer soy milk, to cow's milk.  What is the scoop on this, I have read many conflicting opinions.

re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

We just learned I am pregnant and estimate about 6-7 weeks along.  (My period was all over the place in the six months since I got off the patch, even skipping an entire month at one point so won't know how far along exactly until we go to see the doc.)  We have an appointment scheduled with the doc for next week but wondered if it might be worth waiting to go in for a couple more weeks so we can get a better ultrasound photo of the baby.  Do you have any thoughts on the ideal time (9 weeks in, etc.) to go in and see the doc for the first time?

I am newly pregnant with my 3rd child and I am really not looking forward to the time that comes after having my baby. What I mean is after my 1st and 2nd baby I had lost alot of hair in the front and clumps come out even just running my fingers through my hair. Now Im due to have my 3rd in November of this year and I have a really important  date coming up in July of 2010. Now I was wondering what am I deficient in like my body what am I lacking why my hair continues to fall out because this carries on for a year post baby. Is there any supplements that I can take afterward that can make my hair not fall out???

I'm about 6 weeks along and just read about Hepatitis B being passed to the child during childbirth.  When I was 10 I contracted Hepatitis B from a cousin that I shared a cup with.  I was told that I could never give blood because I was a carrier.  Obviously I plan to tell my OB about this, but my question is, should I go in to see her immediately?  My first appointment isn't until June 11th.  Should I get in there for treatment as soon as possible or just wait for that first appt.?

I just found out that I am five weeks. It was a total surprise but we are very excited. For years I have smoked one pack of cigarettes a day. Since I found out 4 days ago I have cut back to 4-5 cigarettes a day and am hoping to be smoke free inside of a week. Is it terrible for me not to quit cold turkey? I dont want to damage my poor baby this early on. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you, xjessickax

re: Expert Dr. Ashley Roman

I have never ever been regular.  I normally get it about maybe twice or three times a year maybe more depending. However I havn't had one since Dec.25.  I have never gone this long without anything (nothing).  Four of five days ago my boobs have really been hurting.  I'm scared to pee on a stick and it come out negative, because a while ago my ob/gyn told me that when i was trying i would probably have to come in to get tested because my body is so weird the stick would probably always show negative... I made an appt with a doctor for June 25th.  Due you think it would be a possiblity that it is true we have been trying for about a year now.  I just don't wanna be dissapointed.

I went to the emergancy room on the 19th of june and at that time I was 12 weeks.I went because I started spotting. The doctor said I had" a blood spot just to the outside." But he didn't say to the outside of what?! I had an ultrasound done then and the tech asked me to raise my right arm and he scanned just under my ribs. Why? I have a doctor that I will be going to soon but I thought I would ask now too.
