Week 16: Avocado

Posted Monday, July 09, 2007 4:25 PM

Watch what you say... tiny bones forming in baby's ears mean the little one can now pick up your voice. Eyebrows, lashes and hair are starting to fill in, and taste buds are forming. And, if you're interested, an ultrasound might be able to determine gender.

re: Week 16: Avocado

An avocado is bigger than a naval orange?

re: Week 16: Avocado

Yeah, I don't know how that is possible either. Maybe they mean that its bigger length-wise.

re: Week 16: Avocado

The navel orange was 10.1cm  and 70 grams so the avacado is bigger actually although you wouldn't think it would be.

re: Week 16: Avocado

It is based on the length of the fruit/veg...to give a rough idea of the babies size...hence why in a few weeks we will go from a melon to a banana.  Bananas aren't bigger than a melon, but they are longer, giving us a good picture of the head to rump size of the babies.

Now that 3d/4d ultrasounds have finally gone done a little in price, I am so excited I will find out what we're having tomorrow, right at 16 weeks!! Look into it in your area, it's safe, and some places are as cheap as $75 and you get pics (hard copy and on cd) and a dvd of the whole thing to take home! I can't wait to meet my Avocado! PS- If you've ever lived in FL, you know that avocados grow as big as 8 inches long and 5 inches wide, so they must be talking about the little ones that are imported lol!

I didnt want to know the gender of the baby either but preparing for the bab that way was harder than I imagined it wold be! Everything is either pink or blue, and the greens...well...how much green and yellow can you dress a baby in really!!

An avocado is definitely bigger than a naval orange!

I am SO jealous that so many of you ladies know what your babies are! At my 14 week u/s, my little avo had its legs crossed the whole time so I couldn't see what it was! I'm hoping to have another scan done within the next two to three weeks, and hopefully I'll know whether we're going blue or pink. :)

As for the baby being able to hear already! I've been singing 'Au Clair de la Lune' to my baby, which is what my mother used to sing to me as a baby. Since we'll be living out of the country for a few years with hubby's fam, I'm hoping to carry on my family's heritage through bonding sessions with our baby. So excited!!

Posted by autumnmchaney    Tuesday, September 22, 2009 1:44 PM

re: Week 16: Avocado

The size refers to the LENGTH of the baby from crown (head) to rump (the bottom), it does not include the baby's legs! It also doesn't compare the weight, it tells you how many ounces the baby could be right now. Remember, your baby has hardly any fat on it right now, so it is not going to weigh much yet. As far as the hearing thing goes, in my book they gave me from the Mayo clinic, it said the baby does not start to be able to hear until week 18, and the same with the hair growing thing, it said the scalp pattern is forming, but there is no hair yet. Different sources say different things, but that doesn't mean we still shouldn't start talking to our little ones! I know I sing sometimes!

re: Week 16: Avocado

The gender predictor was wrong for me, it turned green showing that we would have a boy and u/s at 15 weeks showed our little avocado is definitely a girl!  I haven't really felt any movement, just a heartbeat feeling in my stomach... maybe I'm not sure what to feel for since this is my first?

re: Week 16: Avocado

Oh aaaand I don't think people could tell I was  pregnant if they didn't know, but at 16wks 4days I've gained almost 10 pounds! Most of my pants still fit, but I need a rubber band for some of the tighter jeans!  My doctor says I should gain about 35lbs, but at the rate I'm going, I am just not sure :)
