Week 20: Cantaloupe

Posted Monday, July 09, 2007 4:39 PM

Baby's digestive system is busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. And, speaking of the diaper situation... baby's genitals are now fully formed!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I am feeling lots of "stomach growling" going on which i think is the baby moving.  I rarely fel or heard my stomach growl before, but it happens every day multiple times now!  I am feeling it several times a day anyway.  When will my belly button area stick out with the rest of my belly?

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

Belly button pops out like a turkey - the button pops out when it's done, hence the belly button pops out when you're done cooking the baby! LOL

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

Started to really feel the little one move...feels like a little worm in there.

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I just felt the baby move for the first time last night! (I think) It only happened for a few brief moments but it was like the little flutter you get in your tummy when you kiss somebody for the first time. It felt like the baby was tickling me. One of the coolest things I've ever experienced.

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I sure feel like a cantaloupe is sitting on my bladder right now...ouch.  I started feeling baby move last week, and to me it felt like little gas bubbles under my belly button.  Gas bubbles minus the pain!  It's not too frequent yet but mainly at night like they say.

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I've been feeling real kicks for the last week and a day, it's so exciting to feel her move!  My belly button is getting more and more shallow by the day, it seems... I don't think it will be long before my innie becomes an outie!  My tummy has been showing since week 12 and I definitely popped at week 17... now I'm halfway there - yay for cantaloupes! =)

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I've been feeling baby for a few weeks now, but the past few days I've been getting some really good kick - LOVE IT!  My belly button is getting pretty shallow too.  I can't believe I'm finally a cantaloupe.  I never thought I would be a cantaloupe!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

We had our big US yesterday and found out our baby is a Healthy Girl!!!   I also found out that the placenta is anteriorly placed - which makes it more difficult to feel her moving b/c it acts as a cushion to her movements.  I have felt some flutters at night - but that explains why that's all I've felt.  Good to know!

I am seriously SO excited to finally be at cantaloupe status!  Although I haven't felt baby move yet, we go for our BIG ULTRASOUND in just 2 days!!  :)

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I am 20 wk and 3 days and can't believe my baby could be as big as a cantaloupe?  had my 2-d US last week and was told he/she was 9oz. at that time, and measuring 19 wks 2 days (only 1 day off) We couldn't decide if we wanted to know the gender or not, so the technician wrote it on a piece of paper and sealed it in an envelope for us.  It is now hanging on my fridge taunting me! lol  Anyone else not sure if they want to know the gender yet?

Posted by Nannergal    Monday, May 19, 2008 5:41 PM

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

It would probably drive me crazy if I didn't know the gender of my baby and it was hanging on my fridge. When I found out I was pregnant my boyfriend and I decided we did not want to find out if it was a boy or girl until the big delivery day. During the US we stuck to that, although my boyfriend's family is dying to know.

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

We recently found out we're having a healthy girl and that my placenta is also anteriorly placed but they didn't tell us it would be more difficult to feel her moving! I wish I had known b/c everyone kept asking if I had felt her yet. I was beginning to worry when suddenly this past weekend she "talked" to me for the first time! It was more like quick popping so I guess I passed the "flutter" stage w/o even knowing, just thinking it was gas! Oh the joys of pregnancy!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

Hmm, I never thought to check the "shallowness of my bellybutton" until I read this list of comments.  Sure enough, it's getting smaller!  Funny!

We also had our ultrasound and discovered we're having a little girl.  We got a very clear shot of her... parts :) The technician told us we could be very certain of her female-ness.  DH and I are SO excited!

I've been on and off with feeling her moving around.  Still, it's amazing to discover how large she's getting!  The tech said she's just under a foot head to toe, so the length of a piece of printer paper!  Amazing!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

My baby boy is squirming away in there.  I've been feeling him for about 4 weeks now, but the movements are definitely getting stronger.  DH still hasn't been able to feel him though :(  And my belly button is surely disappearing...

I felt my little one move for the first time at 17 weeks. It is amazing! Sometimes a certain part of my belly will get really hard and it kind of hurts, my doctor said he/she is moving around in there and that I am feeling the head or foot. Crazy! Has anyone else felt this? I find out on the 15th if it's a boy or girl and I can't wait.

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

why does everyone have their US to find out the gender (fetal anatomy) after 20 weeks? I found out what i was having at 18 weeks!

and the mommy with the envelope on the fridge with the gender in it... i would've ripped it open that 1st night. I'm a planner.. i can not wait last minute to see what im expecting lol.

I'm expecting a baby girl in November :) very excited too! and she's a kicker but not when dad is trying to feel

My doctor refused to do my US until 20 weeks, he said it isn't as accurate reading any earlier. I am not sure i wanna know the sex. My husband on the other hand really wants to know!!! My doctor is really busy so i have to wait until i am 22 weeks or August 11th to know the sex and for my next check up....that is if i wanna know.

I've been feeling our little one since the 13th or the 14th week and we're 20 weeks today. He/she kicks me so hard that I feel like I'm going to wet my pants sometimes. LOL. Meconium Tip: Put olive oil on baby's bum after birth for first few diaper changes. It keeps the meconium poo from sticking and is natural and good for baby's bum.

Week 20: Cantaloupe

I am starting to really look the part of "pregnant" , which is weird because I haven't gained a pound even though I look it. We are expecting a baby boy. My hubby is thrilled. Baby is a wiggle worm. I don't experience flutters...more like shifts of weight in my pelvic area.

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I'm so jealous!  I really felt anything yet or maybe I just don't know what I'm supposed to be feeling for.  I'm sure it will come.  Our little girl also isn't the most active baby.  During the US, she usually just lays there.  I hope I feel something soon!  I can't wait.  I am already so huge even though its only 20wks!  People can actually tell I'm pregnant now!  I've gotten so many compliments and questions so that's been really exciting!

It definitely looksn like I have a cantaloupe in there. I am carrying all out front. it looks kind of funny. I have been feeling him for weeks now. Hubby is MD so we snuck into hospital and US ourselves and saw little boy parts. I go to my OB the 16th to confirm. He is a mover too. I can feel his kicks with my hand but everytime daddy comes over he stops.  Little stinker :-)

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

Ladies....  just a few weeks ago our babies were just little blueberries! And now here we are, cantelopes! How amazing and exciting! I'm getting more and more anxious each day to meet my little one.

This has been an exciting week for me! I'm 20 weeks today and I officially hit my "pop out" and can no longer fit in any of my jeans anymore (even with the belly belt).... So I went maternity shopping and had a blast! Maternity clothes are so much more comfortable and compliment my little belly... I love it that I'm actually looking pregnant now!

I still feel flutters all the time, but no kicks yet. I can't wait until my husband can feel the movements too!

Merry Chirstmas and Happy Holidays to all you ladies! Enjoy dreaming of what next Christmas is going to be like with our new babies at home with us! I know I will be!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

Just hit the 21 week mark today!  Got my US photos last week but the place I went to will not tell you the baby's sex, so I have to make a separate appointment ($100!!!!!) to find out next week.  I love surprises, but I too am a crazy planner!  Theknot was my haven while wedding planning so I am overjoyed that thebump is here to accommodate my craziness!!

I don't think I am quite a cantaloupe as I am very small built and I am

wondering if babies are a little bit proprtional to their mother's size.

I am 5'1 and started off at 92lbs, weighing in at a pathetic 100lbs last week.

Hopefully this little one starts growing!

Congrats to all of you!!!!!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I have felt "him"moving for the last 10 days now and I compare the feeling to when you get a twitch/flutter in your eye lid (or anywhere on your body) but it's more enjoyable knowing it's my own little son in there! I love it. He does it a few times a day but mostly in the early evenings (5pm onwards). My belly isn't overly "popped" yet and im 20 weeks. I was small to begin with though so I heard I may just pop out toward the end and look as if I swallowed a basketball. I found out i'm having a boy a week ago, at my 19 week US:) Can't for the life of me find a boys name that my man and me agree on lol. I'm easy going, I love lots of names but he sure doesn't.

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

We found out on Thursday we are having a boy--which is shocking, as he is the first boy for three generations on my mom's side! We are very excited, but I have been very impatient to feel him. I think that I did last night--just as I was getting ready to fall asleep, it felt like that jump your stomach gives on an elevator, like it's a floor above you. I don't know if that was it or not, but I'm counting it! I know that he's moving for sure because he was so feisty during the ultrasound that it took her almost an hour to determine his sex, even though we had been giving him pep talks for a week about the ultrasound, and we have to go back for her to see his spine and kidneys. It makes me excited that he's feisty--he's like his mama! I have only gained a couple of pounds, but I'm plus size, so the doctor's not really concerned,  especially because our little guy is growing right on schedule!

We're having a BOY!!  I'm so excited and my husband is sooooo proud of himself!  I'm kind of bummed that I haven't really felt the baby move.  If I have, it's been so quick that I missed it.  I still don't look very pregnant and have only gained 7 pounds.  The doc says everything is okay!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

We had our US on 3/9 and our little cantaloupe was playing hide and seek. Already has a personality. The doctor could not confirm the sex of the baby bc everytime he tried to look the baby would turn it's butt. I doctor feels confident that our little cantalope is a GIRL bc when he was looking for the "good" he did not see anything. The doc is 98% sure it's a girl. We go back on 3/30 to confirm. hopefully the baby will not be in the mood to play games and just show us what she has!!!

I have to admit, I feel her move ALL the time. She actually KICKED me for the first time on Tueday. It took my breathe away!

Good Luck fellow cantaloupes!!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

Hello everyone!! the Hubby and I just found out we are having our first baby girl!!! YEAHHH!!! we are very excited because we already have 3 boys (lots of kids huh lol!) but we could clearly see her girl parts so i am very excited not to be the only girl in the house any more :-). At our 13 week ultrascreen we had an awesome Dr and ultrasound tech that had told us that they believed it was a girl because they couldnt see anything between her legs at that point and they were correct. So for all of those that were wondering if the Dr could tell the sex of the baby during the ultrascreen some times they can, and you can rely on the results more if you have a well seasoned Dr and ultrasound tech! Congrats to everyone expecting!!!

Hubby and I found out yesterday we are having a little girl.  It was really great to see her moving around on the screen.  I thought she was kicking my bladder but turns out she is head butting it.  What a cutie.  I may be a little biased though. lol

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I'm finally 20 weeks! I can't believe the baby is the size of a cantaloupe since I'm so small.  I can definitely feel him/her moving.  I first felt flutters really early, around 13 weeks.  We have to wait til next week to find out the gender though :-(  Good thing time seems to be flying!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

My bump doesn't seem all that big if the baby is actually the size of a cantelope... I have felt those tiny movements, just wondering when I will feel them much harder. Cantelope on my bladder, oh yes, I get so frustrated that I pee so much now, especially when I try and sleep the whole night through (this is not possible with this bladder)!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

My girl is a fighter, we had our U/S a couple of weeks ago.  She fought the U/S lady the whole time.  LOL our first view of her was a punching hit.  No wonder I have felt her since 14 weeks!  I think she is going to be very athletic and be real good at Taekwando like her Grandma, Uncle, and Aunt.  They are all Black Belts and I think she will be like them.  She had me laughing so hard during the U/S that the screen was moving up and down.  I am glad she moved the entire time, it was good to see that she was OK and a fighter .  She is fiesty and doesn't like to be touched just like her mom.  Melted my heart.

...we've known we were having a boy since our CVS test at week 13, but the past few weeks he's definitely becoming more active! daddy has commented on how the belly is a little bigger, which has certainly made us both more excited as the days pass :) the past US & fetal echocardio he has decided to position himself face down (spine up) which has made it difficult on the doctors but cracks us up! certainly doesn't like the feeling or sound of the US much.

I just reached 20 weeks today. I felt the "fluttering" for the first time 2 days ago and a couple of times yesterday and today it's starting to feel real now. After throwing up so much in the 1st trimester i am just now starting to actually look kinda preggo. DH and I have decided that it's more fun to wait for the baby to get here to find out if it's a boy or a girl.

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

haven't really felt my boy cantaloupe move yet...at least I think I haven't...can't really tell if what I'm feeling are baby movements or just gas :)......

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

My little one skipped the "it feels like gas bubbles stage" and went right to twisting and kicking. It is the weirdest feeling in the world, but it is one that I wouldn't trade for anything.

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

baby boy cantaloupe has been doing jumping jacks on my bladder,  making it feel like my insides want to fall out.  Love being able to feel where he is in my belly and his little kicks

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I'm so happy to be at this point and love feeling my little boy move around in my tummy.  The extra pressure on my bladder isn't as exciting, but it is all completely worth everything.  PLUS, the sickness has FINALLY subsided.  Whoo hoo!!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I am so excited to be at week 20! All the ladies I work with ask me each week what kind of fruit I'm carrying around - they can't believe how quickly I went from blueberry to canteloupe!

I've only felt little movements here and there, but hopefully he/she will be throwing some good kicks soon. Our US is Nov. 17, so at 21 weeks we'll find out if we're having a boy banana or a girl banana!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

Has anyone else's ribs cracked? I am sore on both sides. Making room for baby is hard work! We find out the sex tomorrow and straight to shopping for me!

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I don't feel anything. I am BARELY showing. I'm still wearing my regular jeans  & tee shirts. I don't feel him moving around at all. I have gained maybe 7 lbs so far since I've been pregnant. I don't have any cravings really except for fruit. It's like I'm not even pregnant!! But I have the sonograms & a missing period to prove it lol.

re: Week 20: Cantaloupe

I'm at 20 wks and 4 days.. go next week for my second US, but I knew the sex at my first US.. only 17wks along! There was absolutely no doubt when we saw his parts. :) He's been moving around off and on and last week I could trace a knee or foot moving quite a bit!
