Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

Posted Monday, July 09, 2007 5:15 PM

Baby’s energy is surging, thanks to the formation of white fat deposits beneath the skin. (Have those kicks and jabs to the ribs tipped you off yet?) Baby is also settling into sleep and waking cycles, though -- as you’ve also probably noticed -- they don’t necessarily coincide with your own. Also this month, all five senses are finally functional, and the brain and nervous system are going through major developments.

why is my baby compared to a bloody squash? It could be anything else but that.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I really have no concept of how big a squash is...and why can't they do the sizes in inches and centimeters??

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I agree. I have no idea what that is supposed to mean in terms of size. PLEASE Nest, just give us inches & pounds. Thank you.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I guess we're supposed to assume that the list of "experts" to the left of this explanation have determined that this strange looking root veggie is an accurate description of what's in my uterus. Somehow I think they've fallen short - just as their servers do on nearly a daily basis! Might serve them well to advertise for SOMEONE BESIDES THEMSELVES to generate some revenue to spruce up their site and infastructure! Thank god I didn't invest in this corp!

What IS a squash?  And I swear my baby doesn't feel like a little orange ball with a stem....

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I can't stand the veggies and fruit comparisons. The squash is totally round and my baby is almost 15 inches long. I want to compare her to something else not a round object.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I like the veggie/fruit comparisons!  It gives me something solid and familiar to compare the size of my baby to.  (Although the squash is a bit weird...  bigger than an eggplant but smaller than honeydew lemon works for me!)

Posted by Kimma25    Friday, February 29, 2008 12:05 AM

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

Um, it IS listed in inches and pounds! And seriously, who doesn't know what a squash looks like?

Posted by mollyosmom    Friday, March 07, 2008 9:49 AM

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

Hmmm... I also like the comparison...  What, other than an actual BABY, could they compare it to - unless you want them to ask you to imagine an animal, like a dog, in your uterus... I'd rather think of fruits & veggies - they give me something solid & familiar to consider in terms of average weight/size.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I HATE the comparisons that this site offers. I feel as if we can't handle a real life perspective of what our baby's size is and what the baby might look like. Give me a REAL medical description and also tell me what is happening inside my body i.e. uterus to abdominal cavity ratio!!!!! Don't treat me as if I am an infant too...

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

We got our 2nd ultrasound on our 20th week and the lady told us that our baby was 17 in long already not including his legs! I can't imagine how long he is now! We will find out in two weeks. Yay!

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

Since every pregnant woman is different, giving a real medical description along with what is happening inside your body wouldn't be accurate for everyone. I like the comparisons and think they are cute. It's just something to relate to week by week. Personally, I wasn't THRILLED with the squash example, but it's a nice addition to the website that thenestbaby.com doesn't really HAVE to offer. Why are we complaining?

i know how everyone feels about are babies being compared to a squash its somthen that i still dont understand but i like the babyzone website. cause they show you whats happening with the baby and it shows ur baby as well

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

i like that they describe the size of the baby like this. its easier for me to explain to the children i already have how big the baby is getting. also it is not hard to go to the store and pick one up to see the difference.

this is the work image to to use NEST. please use another photo, fruit or veggie to describe the baby.  it seems like the most random photo to use. anywho, i think my baby will participate in sports like soccer, kick boxing and baseball. every time i put my hand anywhere on my belly he jabs and kicks my hand. this week he is definitely into kicking or settling in my rib area. not a good feeling.

There are many different types of squash, so while the fruit/veggie images may sometimes be helpful comparisons, this one is not.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

As another woman pointed out, the pounds and inches ARE listed.  I think this is a fine comparison.  It's meant to give us an IDEA of baby, not the actual medical description and everyone is different.  I'm carrying twins and my babies are 2 1/2 + lbs at 29 weeks, compared to my cousin who only is carrying one and hers is only 3 lbs at 33 weeks.  We're all different and this is just a tool to help us get an idea.  If you don't like it, don't use it.  There are a million other pregnancy websites out there!

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

Wow, everyone is so testy!  It's just a comparison, it's not like, EXACT... and there are actual measurements there, right under the photo if you look...... I find it funny that people are asking for real "medical" descriptions.... being pregnant isn't medical at all, it's natural and normal and has nothing to do with the practice of medicine (or shouldn't).  We are pregnant ladies, not sick or dying - no medical attention required unless there is something wrong!  Personally, I just click on these things for the info (although there's hardly ANY info offered to describe what's happening to baby and mom), the comparisons are cute - not exact, and not the same for everyone.  Some ladies need to chill out........ it's just an example!

Posted by jholtzman    Thursday, June 05, 2008 11:52 PM

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

If you dont like the comparisons, go somewhere else, they are not forcing you to compare your baby to anything.  Also, they have inches and pounds right up under the fruit that you hate so much, so you can feel free to take out a ruler and see how long your baby might be.  For goodness sakes what is with all the complaining!

I've always enjoyed the fruit/veggie comparison. I prefer that over sports balls or pets! Did you ever stop to think that it's two-fold advice - a GREAT WAY to REMIND US to eat our fruits and veggies?? I agree with the other poster who said babyzone.com is a GREAT place to read MORE about what's going on with you and baby week by week. Good luck squashes! Be happy!

Good lord ladies....have we nothing better to worry about than to complain over the fruit comparison?  I love them!!  I enjoy going to the local produce department and finding the week's image and comparing it to my stomach....I get such a kick out of it...as does my husband.  It helps him to visualize the baby's size........Good job NEST.....dont change a thing!

Really if the biggest thing you have to worry about right now is a fruit/veggie description on the nest, count your blessings.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I think the fruit and veggie comparison, while not completely accurate, is still a cute idea.  Also, as said by some of you, they do indicate measurements/pounds.  So, what's all the fuss about?!  I guess it truly is the 3rd trimester for some of you!!

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I realize that it is our 3rd trimester... but ladies, please try and remember all that this site gives us.  And lets not dwell on the fruit and veggie aspect of the descriptions.  And I too think that some of the description have a little to be desired, but for the most part... they are fun and cute!

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

you know it's funny, every one thought it was great when their baby was a "sweet pea" but know that it's a "Squash" there is a issue with the site?

I love the descriptions, it is so much more fun to say "my baby is the size of a squash" than " my baby is 4lbs and 7oz" (which mine is, his gonna be a big boy!) Come on ladies don't we have enought stress already? Lets just have fun and enjoy the home stretch. Good luck to all.

I don't know what a squash is.

I don't mind the food comparisim. Ladies would you rather your babies were compared to animals? I don't think so. I don't think the NEST's intention is t offend anyone's sensibilities so please relax.

Why does the eggplant look bigger?  A squash is so innocent.   As long as it means we're gettin closer to meeting our little babies!!

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

for those getting a little over dramatic about the use of a squash( there must be bigger problems in the workld) I say please go to a medical sight if you want medical opinion, again I agree that each women is different so this will not be accurate anyway, and this comparison is helpful for those people who, one know that there is a baby inside and not a squash, and two want to reference a size. I like the comparisons Also for those who say one looks bigger than the other READ THE INCHES AND POUNDS!!! (which I think are clearly marked!!!)

Wow!  This is quite a fascinating commentary going on regarding the squash comparison.  I am ecstatic that there are sites devoted to baby information and that they make these wee comparisons for us.  :-)  It's been 17 years since my last one and I have been amazed at the amount of information available now via the web.  So, thank you, Nest, and thank you to all of the other sites out there where we can find informative, fun, silly, and yes, even advanced medical insight into what's going on with our (quite pregnant) bodies and our lovely wee ones growing happily inside us.  Kudos to you!  :-)

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

30 weeks and counting. I have my first couple of stretch marks forming. I don't care what anyone says about creams and oils. I have used them all since day one and I am still getting them. My wittle guy is moving like crazy. I am more concerned with inches and weigh when it comes to baby size. The fruit/veggie comparisons are nice, but I don't really worry about it.

Yeah, I think stretch marks are just inevitable on some people.  My Mom looks like a zebra!  I have quite a few right now; I think its just hereditary, too.  I have used that Palmer's Cocoa Butter 2x a day since like the 14th week, and they are still here!!  Oh well, its my war scars... I guess.  I am about 31 weeks and so ready for this baby to come out already!!  I can't sleep at all!!  I want to meet my baby girl already!

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I like the comparisons, b/c, unlike in "What to Expect" which shows an illustration in utero, (which is a hard concept to grasp), a fruit and veggie is a tangible thing that if I wish I can go find and see the size.  And really, if you don't like the comparisons, then what are you still doing looking at it 29 weeks into it?  :-)  Just an observation.

My little boy definitely is moving around a LOT!  I can actually sit in a chair and watch my belly move.  WEIRD!

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I like the veggie and fruit comparisons!  Besides, its not like its supposed to be a serious accurate depiction of everyone's baby.  Its just something to give us a rough idea.  Obviously its a little odd that the baby can go from an oblong eggplant one week to a round squash the next.  That makes it hard to believe.  But its just for fun!

As far as the squash- I think it's cute. And for inches and pounds, it's listed on the example, too. If you don't know what a sqaush looks like, then stop by the produce section of your local grocery store. If you want to know what baby looks like at 32 weeks, go to google images and type it in, I promise that actual pictures of ultrasounds will pop up. I think it's great that new moms can look to this web site for cute examples, that some of us may find comforting during a first, or difficult pregnancy. If you don't like them, don't subscribe, or un-subscribe, stop your complaining, seriously.

Holy preganancy hormones kicking in ladies! This is meant to be fun and help, not to be some exact, scientific alternative to a 4-D ultrasound. If you think it's fun, keep checking up and enjoy the interesting comparisons. If you don't like, stop complaining and find anohter site that suits your taste.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

Wow!  The typical complainings of pregnant women....!  I think the fruits and veggies is a cute idea and I PRAY that the BUMP doesn't change it because of some very emotional pregnant women.  I'm pregnant too and I CHOOSE to be happy and if I don't like something, I don't read it, don't subscribe to it, etc.  For those who are looking for scientific perspective and jargon about what's going on inside of them regarding their pregnancies should go to Barnes and Noble and buy some books on pregnancy, take a class and/or have a consult with their doctors!  As for me, I don't take the comparisons literally and I KNOW that the BUMP is just trying to lighten up the medical terms and descriptions.  Honestly, I have read all that medical jargon and that my fellow preggers is DEPRESSING!!!!!!!!!!  Thanks BUMP, keep the fruits and veggies comin'!!!!

As for the others that just look at it for the fun "idea" of what size the baby might be, (since we are all different) Kudos to you. Enjoy the pregnancy, look at your baby belly as whatever food you want, and relax. Its a baby in there. I personally feel like a house. BLEH!!!... so big. just can't wait for baby.

Not a fan of the veggie comparison either.  We're at 32 weeks, and our boy has measured at 5 lbs at 30 weeks.  No matter what it is hard to imagine something that big and heavy inside you....:)  The veggie comparison doesnt make the thought of the birth process any more pleasant.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

Everyone on here keeps talking about how baby moves so much.  I'm a little concerned because although I feel her move every once in a while, I don't feel any jabbing or kicking.  Maybe she's lazy and likes to sleep a lot.  I'm also a bit overweight, so maybe that has something to do with it.  I'm 30 weeks today, so I was just wondering if anyone else was going through this.

This says up to 3.6 lbs. I just had my ultrasound yesterday and our little boy is weighing 3 lbs 3 oz! And I'm only at 29 weeks!

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I'm kind of thankful he's not jabbing and kicking me hard!  haha... he definitely squirms and moves a LOT but so far nothing really hard, although he sometimes pushes hard on my bladder and that doesn't feel that great lol.  I still feel his movements really low in my belly, nothing up higher than my belly button.  next week i'll be 29 weeks

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

If people dont like being compared to a squash then go to another site and quit complaining and be happy you have a site to go to that has information

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

haha. I just find it funny people complaining about a squash. Also, it has the size in inches for you right there, so you can kindof figure it out. Its not rocket science. Its suppost to be fun and cute, not an all inclusive "your baby is this big" chart. Its relative.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I agree with one of the first people that commented...there should be kg and centimeters listed to make it easier for others to understand!  Other than that pretty good.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I've never seen a squash that looked like the one in the picture.  Another website mentioned a head of cabbage, so I'll go by that one.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

My baby moves all the time. I swear she never sleeps. My doctor hasnt told me how much she weighs or how big she should be. According to the books ive been reading, she should be weighing in around 4 pounds! I cant believe i only have 8 weeks left. I hope they fly by cause im ready for her to get here!

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

I love this site and it's helped me understand whats going on with my baby girl each week.  My baby is weighing in at about 4 lbs now and I'm 32 weeks along.  With or without the dang squash, I get to read about how she's growing.  Thanks "The Bump"!  This is my first pregnancy and it's amazing to read about how our babies are developing everyday.  Honeydew.....................here we come!

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

That's hilarious that people are complaining about the veggie/fruit description! If they are so upset by it then why log onto the site? As someone else noted....there are millions of baby sites out there. AND...they do have the inches and pounds posted next to the veggie. I think the comparison is fine. It gives you something solid to think about.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

why are all you complaining that it compares our baby to a squash???  if you don't know how big a squash is, and assuming you also cannot read since it says it in terms of size and weight, then go to another comparision chart.  i myself love looking at what the next veggie/fruit is going to be!  it's all for fun so lighten up!!!!!

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

Please I would like to see a picture of a baby and not a fruit/veggie!!  I am not feeling kicks and jabbs in my ribs because my baby is breech!!!!  I feel it in my pelvis, hips and bladder =) How much fun is that for me........  I do feel there are other websites that are more informative about what is happening week to week of my pregnancy.

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

i love this site for this growth chart.  however i am constantly annoyed by how strange others reactions are to the fruit of the moment.  how hard is it to understand that the baby is more or less the size volume etc?  no your baby does not have a stem and no your baby is not as ugly as a squash.  its not supposed to look like the fruit its just a way to get a ruff idea of how the baby is progressing and if you know better sites by all means use the more scientific site as well you wacky birds...

re: Weeks 29-32 (Month 7): Squash

Why are people responding to the other women complaining... if you look at half of the dates these ladies have delivared there babies or are on to another month...

We have happy healthy babies... thats the postive part!... Yeah for us !
