Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

Posted Monday, July 09, 2007 5:16 PM

Baby’s senses are continuing to improve -- when light peeks in through your (extremely) stretched belly, those tiny eyelids and irises blink and dilate. And, baby can now recognize and react to simple songs… time to start practicing your lullabies! Growth (at least inside your womb) is starting to slow, and you may notice baby descend into your pelvis at the end of this month.

Why in the world would you show baby's weight in grams? Why not lbs and oz, like we all use?

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

Like the other poster, I am also wondering why we're looking at baby's length and weight in metric measurements.

Me too! (wondering) Inches & pounds please.

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

Not the entire world uses lb. and in., so I get using the metric system (most European countries do, so you're covered off there) - but it would be nice to have both...since the US uses lb. and in.

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

17-18.5 inches and 4-5.5 lbs...rounded to the nearest half inch/lb

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

YAY! So happy to see it in lbs and in. (but I don't think they had to get rid of the metric units! We just wanted to see both!)

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

the way you convert kg (kilgrams) to lbs (pounds) is to Multiply the weight in kilograms by 2.2 = your weight in pounds :-)

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

I can't believe people are too lazy to convert a weight or measurement if it isn't sitting right in front of your face. WOW.

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

i see inches and pounds? what on earth are you talking about? Plus, i think the US is the only country that does not use the metric system so the strange thing is the measurement in pounds and inches not in the metric system.

Posted by karukaru    Friday, April 25, 2008 9:45 AM

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

Also, doctors in the US, along with most scientists, use the metric system, so it is a helpful measurement to have!

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

You all need to chill on the measurments in lbs or metric. Chill out ladies it's not that serious. Relax your baby is bigger and you're 33 weeks!

I love this comparison. I love Honeydew just as I will love my lil girl I'm making. So excited now, but its seems like it's a long haul now too..

The entire world except the US uses metric exclusively. Learn simple math and you can too.

Ok...ok...I'm rolling my eyes on the whole measurement thing. Are you guys all just reeeeaaaaalllly bored or what? LOL. You're having babies! Relax, your ride is almost over, ladies. These last few weeks are too precious to be PO'd about anything! ;) Think about it, soon you'll be looking at your little ones and you won't even remember this stuff.

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

Soooo, I'm almost 35 weeks, did anyone here that that is the safe point for preemies also? I'm really looking forward to finally trading in the belly for the baby, but I'm also worried about the labor, it's my first and I have no idea what it's going to be like.....

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

Me too! I'm so freaking out about labor right now! All I know is people say it hurts more than anything you could ever imagine. I can't even wrap my head around that statement! I'm wondering if all those breathing techniques I learned are really going to help...

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

At our birthing class, one of the nurses was trying to describe the pain to relate it to something familiar.  She said, "OK, you know the feel of the cramps that make you bend over and clutch your belly?  Take that times about 10 million and you know what labor feels like."  I just wanted to tell her that sometimes ignorance really is bliss...

It is so close to her getting here and for the last 8 months I have been looking for something to compare her to BESIDES fruits and vegetables.

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

i dont know what everyone is talking about, it is showing measurements in pounds and inches, and if you dont like the comparisons go to a different site. this is obviously what the bump wants to use so get over it already

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

So yeah we had an ultrasound on Friday and apparently our baby girl is already weighing in at about 5.15oz!  That's almost 6lbs!!  So what is the safe point for delivery?  Is it 36 weeks or 38 weeks?  I just don't want this baby to come out super huge!

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

Well I can see inches and pounds. I always have... I think. Either way it doesn't bother me. Mm... I want some honeydew right now... (goes to the store)

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

Wow! I make big babies. How is the average lbs and inches determined? I'm 31 weeks, and she is 4 lbs 11 oz. My son was a little bit bigger at this stage too. Just curious.

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

33 weeks today!!! I can't believe we are almost there ladies!! This is my first and I'm not really too nervous about labor...(maybe I should be)... When I was young I used to get cramps so bad that I would be bedridden and would throw up becuase of the pain... my mom used to tell me that having a baby was a million times worse than that! I don't even want to immagine it! I agree with jess&jake though that ignorance is bliss! I try to keep reminding myself that if millions of women do this every day then I can do it too... Whatever it takes to get my baby here safe and sound and healthy, I'll do it!

I am starting to feel a little panic about how fast this is coming... I feel like there is so much to do still!!! This baby can be here anywhere from 4-7 weeks! Time is going to fly by and soon I'm going to be holding this baby in my arms! Yay!

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

Yeah 33 Weeks today! I'm excited and anxious to meet my little honeydew, especially since we don't know the sex. I used to get really bad cramps too when I was younger so I'm don't know how I'm going to handle these contractions when they come. I'm starting to get nervous about the delivery, but like someone said...women do this everyday! I cant wait to hold my baby too!!!

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

I dont know what you all are seeing. Maybe mine is different but I see that it says 4.2 to 5.8 lbs...ie pounds.  I dont see grams any where.  And 17.2 to 18.7 inches.

I will say I wish they didnt compare the babies to round melons...I can tell you that by looking at my belly lol.  I'm pretty sure the baby isnt a round hollow mass, something a little more realistic would be great.

My baby is now 4lbs. 11oz. and I'm afraid to think that by the time I deliver him that he'll be the size of a watermelon and about 7-8lbs.

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

As long as baby is healthy, does it really matter how big they are?  When i had my first baby, they told me at my last appointment that he was going to be about 6 lbs.  Imagine my surprise when I pushed out an 8lb 2oz baby, with no pain medicine.  I was surprised that he was so big but more elated that he was extremely healthy.  So I know I did something right...Right?

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

I'm 33 weeks and 3 days and I just got back from the doctor.  They claim my due date is still correct, but I don't have a honeydew, I have a watermellon already.  They estimate my baby at 7 pounds and both of us are measuring at 36 weeks.  I wish there was some magic way to tell the exact date you were going to deliver on cause now all I can think about is having a giant baby.

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

im 35 and a half weeks, i cant wait to meet our little melon. i have had a dream pregnancy with no morning sickness or any hiccups along the way. im still working (hairdresser) although this is my last week, thank heavens, im getting tired now and am finding it harder to walk with the pressure on my lower abdomen, it feels a bit like i have done far too much exercise. doc says the baby will be between 8-8 1\2 lbs, i thnk thats a great size as long as its no bigger lol.

Posted by gonnabamum    Tuesday, September 15, 2009 5:43 AM

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

I also am still working and constantly on my feet.  I just hate to quit work to long before I'm due.  I want to save as much time as possible for after my little girl is born.  I'm 35 weeks and 1 day.  Earlier this week at my appointment they did another ultrasound and I was very surprised to hear the doc say that my little angel is approximately 6lbs 2oz already.  She is my fifth child so I am not worried about the labor or delivery (all have born natural) but my biggest child so far was only 7lbs 8oz at birth.  Just wondering how much bigger she is going to get and if they got my EDD wrong.  I always thought that they were a week off in their calculations.  There is no way I could have conceived when they say I did but, try telling a KNOW IT ALL doctor that!  Anyway glad I'm almost there.  Doc is gonna induce at 38 weeks so only 3 short more weeks.

re: Weeks 33-36 (Month 8): Honeydew

Kittymeer, Since this is your fifth.  I was just wondering if with each birth your babies got bigger and bigger?   This is my fourth, but my first was a set of twins.  I will not be able to have another ultrasound and my drs don't guess the weight.  So I love coming here and trying to match up the week and sort of go by my last pregnancy as well.  Just curious.
