Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Watermelon

Posted Monday, July 09, 2007 5:35 PM

At week 37, your pregnancy is considered full term, meaning baby is likely to thrive after birth. Baby spends these last weeks in preparation for the outside world… meaning careful refinement of the blink, suck, inhale and exhale. Meconium, which you’ll probably find in the first diaper, is accumulating in the intestines. If (okay, as) you worry about giving birth, consider what it’s like for the little one. During the journey out of your womb, baby will produce more stress hormones than any other time in life.

That must be one HUGE cucumber! I've never seen one that is 19 inches long and weighs 7lbs!!

how does one go from a melon to a cucumber???  does the baby shrink?

Maybe this one could be butternut squash instead?...

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

Soooo ridiculous that it claims a 9 month fetus is comparable to a cucumber. Where on earth do these mutant 20 inch 7-9 pound cucumbers grow?!

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

Wow... Honeydew to a Cucumber... Who's having those kinds of babies? lol

Posted by TuppsLady    Sunday, September 23, 2007 9:16 AM

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

Where do they get this stuff... How can you go from the size of a Honeydew to a Cucumber? What the heck. I know for a fact that she has to be bigger than a cucumber or else that is one heck of a cucumber.

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

The Nest Baby needs to come up with something better than fruit/veggie comparisons----I'm fairly certain that the little person that is about to come out of my pelvic region in no way, shape, or form resembles a cucumber.

WOO HOO! That's gonna take NO effort at all to squeeze out, I wanna sign up for a few more now. lol

Shoulda been compared to a small watermellon maybe?

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

That has to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!  This is baby number 3 for me and the first two were at least watermelons!

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

I think they're talking length-wise, not diameter of the cucumber

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

Even lengthwise you're talking one of those fancy cukes that come wrapped in plastic at the grocery store. Even those are rarely longer than, say 14-15 inches.

what? a cucumber how about a pumpkin!

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

It sure would make birth a lot easier if baby formed into the shape of a cucumber! Then maybe I could bypass the epidural without turning into a big baby myself!!!

Posted by Mom_Of_Damien    Thursday, November 29, 2007 7:31 PM

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

It's an English cucumber - which in fact, is as big as they say . . . .I don't believe they are suggesting that the baby is this shape (that was never suggested - I would have questioned the eggplant then too).  :)  Although, I agree that a watermelon would've been a better choice, the English cucumber does represent the baby's average weight and length.

Cucumber, I wish!!  At my growth ultrasound at 32 weeks, Logan was already 5 lbs 9 oz and still steadily growing!

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

I think this baby is a lot larger than a cucumber!!! If it were only that skinny, I wouldn't be stressing!

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

How ironic, that the thing that went in there to make the baby and now the baby itself 8 months later resembles the same thing.  hehe

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

they seriously  need to get someone else to chose these vegetables. this is by far the worst! A cucumber??? I've never seen a cucumber the size of a 9 month-old fetus!!

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

Agreeing with everyone else. This is stupid. Please give us some accurate measurements & decent comparisons.

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

This thing has been posted since July 06 and despite the complaints about the english cucumber and lbs vs. grams issue, nothing has changed. Not good NestBaby...not good.  You appear to not be listening to your customers.  I think all the previous produce is good, and starts to build and then you click on the final month and your excited and ready and then...booo...a cucumber...how anti-climatic!  You may be thinking that we all just need to get over it...get a life...but please this is one of the most fun features of the site...it's something to look forward to in what feels like a long pregnancy.  Come on, you can do better...

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Cucumber

I eat cucumbers everyday... EVERYDAY! I crave them... and there is no way that the baby that kicks me so hard I can't sleep at night is going to be as small as a food that I eat on a daily basis... NO WAY! She's already 3.5 lbs! I want to find a cucumber that weighs that much! I have seen long cucumbers... and fat ones... but NEVER have I seen or eaten a cucumber that was as big as a baby... NEVER!

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Watermelon

They changed it to watermelon! Now that's more like it, my daughter was definently more of a watermelon then a cucumber!

Posted by wsuBride    Sunday, February 24, 2008 1:03 PM

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Watermelon

Yay!  They finally changed it to a reference that is realistic and that I can understand!  AND they changed the average fetus stats to inches and pounds!

No, a watermelon isn't a cucumber :), but they just re-did the whole list.  (This one make WAY more sense!)  Thank you for changing the "fruits of the week!"

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Watermelon

HELLO!!!! A PREGNANCY IS 40 WEEKS LONG!!! DO THE MATH. This means that a pregnancy is actually 10 months long. Sure there are people who deliver early, but  some people are actually on time. What are we stupid?

Posted by tat2dlydia    Friday, March 21, 2008 2:44 AM

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Watermelon

Wow. When did they change the cucumber to a watermelon? I'm not there yet but I already like I'm carrying a watermelon.  And to the previous post, Month 9 is the 10th month.  IMO it's like how the 1900's were the 20th century. What did you mean?

Posted by Fanty    Monday, March 24, 2008 6:53 PM

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Watermelon

To tat2dlydia: it would be 10 months if there were exactly 4 weeks per month, but there's a little over. If you look at it backwards, there are 52 weeks per year, minus 40 weeks= 12 weeks. If you make those into 4-week months, you get three months. Since there aren't 13 months in a year, 40 weeks must be closer to 9 months than 10.

I cannot wait 'till she is here!  Standing on my feet for 8 hours a day and dealing with stupid teenage girls, and cleaning up their mess in fitting rooms is not my idea of fun, being almost 9 months pregnant.  Maternity leave is sounding better and better by the day.  Sorry laddies! I had to rant just a tiny bit.  And yes I feel like a small cow, with a human being that big inside me!  Hooray for pregnancy!  lol

The absolute joy in those two words "full term".  I guess living in such "spa-like" conditions, must be amazing.  Who would want to be born then?  He can stay as long as he wants, where he is warm, safe and happy.

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Watermelon

I'm very confused as to what site all of you are looking at. The link that I'm looking at shows that my baby at this time is a watermelon. Where in the world are you all getting cucumber? And, I've always seen the measurements in inches and pounds. Is it just my computer or something?

Posted by liniaco    Monday, May 04, 2009 4:05 PM

re: Weeks 37-Delivery (Month 9): Watermelon

Hey liniaco, they had the picture of a cucumber as a comparison example AND the length was measured with the Metric system. The sight must have listened to these ladies and changed the cucumber to the watermelon and went to inches and pounds instead of the metric system.

Hope the helps your confusion...

Some of these ladies need to take a BIG DEEP BREATH and just CALM down...

The pregnancy hormones are getting to them.

BE HAPPY.. it is better for the baby! :O)

I had only gained 26 lbs. with my son and they told me "Oh, he'll weigh 7 lbs. max." YEAH right! My little girl better be SMALLER! My son was DEF. a watermelon!
