Q: Teething tablets helpful?

Q: Do teething tablets really help? What do they do?

Dr. Paula Prezioso: Teething tablets don't work! Some even have medications that aren’t safe for children. Since babies teethe from 6 months old to 2 years old, I don't recommend medication at all. Cold washcloths or cold teethers are a safe alternative.

I disagree my son actually benefited from the teething tablets as did my cousins three children.  BTW I cleared the tablets i use with my pediatrician and she had absolutely no issue with them since they are herbal and all natural.

I disagree.  Although teething tablets are not useful for longterm discomfort relief they can give the baby a break while your pediatrician's recommended longterm relief takes effect.  I use a tablet that is all natural with herbal ingredients and it works fantastic for this -- ceases crying and dries tears up in minutes.

Teething tablets made a huge difference with Joseph's teething pain, when all of the "expert" recommendations, from purchased teethers to frozen food to icy washcloths, were thrown away in screaming fits.

Plus, they have the added bonus of letting Mom feel like she's doing something to make him feel better. Priceless!

We used Hyland Teething Tablets and baby Motrin at night - it really helped with the fussing!  Even if it was jus the sweetness of the tablets that helped calm her down - I'm okay with the placebo effect working!

Absolutely. I swear by them. Collyn stops crying instantly and we're all a happy family again.
