Asher Layne was born on September 15, 2010, at 11:57 p.m. He weighted 7 lbs, 6.3 oz, and was 20.5 inches long. He's a beautiful baby! It was a long, long, LONG labor, but it's over, and we have a wonderful son. We're settling in at home and all just trying to get some sleep!

We're 35 weeks today, with 35 days to go! The countdown is on... Plenty happening around the Owen household. We used gift cards from our showers and some nice discount coupons from our registries to knock out a few large items. Lowell assembed a comfy glider/ottoman combo yesterday, and our Bob Revolution stroller arrived as well. Just waiting on the crib mattress to get here so we can get that all put together. Plenty happening outside our house too - it's "concert month" it seems. Lowell and I saw Primus and Gogol Bordello on August 6, arguably one of the hottest, most humid days we've seen. We saw Weezer and Stone Temple Pilots, among other bands, at River Riot last Saturday. Tonight I'm driving him and his friends back to Westfair for the Uproar Festival to see Avenged Sevenfold and Stonesour (gotta love the pregnant DD, right?). And next week we're off to see Rush at the Qwest Center. I'm looking forward to that one, primarily because it's indoors, has seeting, and the restrooms will have actual plumbing. I've never used a port-a-potty this much in my entire life.

We hired our doula, Sara, this past week. With around 7 weeks to go, give or take (!), we are starting to consider our birth plan and how we envision bringing this new little person into the world. I'm getting really excited, but nervous - there's so much to think about...
Aunts Erin and Lisa, and substitute Grandma Charlene threw us a baby shower this past weekend in Elwood. We had a phenomenal turnout and got tons of great stuff... plus there were cupcakes! I only had 3 at the party...and took 3 home with me. :)
Still plumping up more than I'd like - it's hard to not look at all these super skinny girls running around sporting cute summer outfits when I feel like a blimp - even other pregnant women look slim in comparison. :( My only consolation is the hope that my expanding hips mean that the baby will come out just that much easier! Crossing my fingers...

Lowell and I went in for my regular checkup yesterday, and got the results from my 3 hour GTT - no gestational diabetes! Yea! I passed "with flying colors" - my blood sugar never went over 117. My 1 hour test reading was 152, but we're blaming that on my lunch that day. No more tuna-pasta salad for me, I guess.
We have a doula coming to our house next Wednesday to chat. The first one I spoke with was already book for mid-September, so this was a relief to find another so quickly that was both available and enthusiastic.
Today's challenge - maternity leave paperwork. I can't seem to get our benefits department on the phone. I've called several times and left messages (they're in another state), and they finally called me back...after I left work for the day. Naturally, my "baby brain" has wiped my voicemail PIN from my memory, so I can't even check to see what they've said.
Our latest discovery "in the belly"? Hiccups - I didn't register the small taps as hiccups until the last couple of weeks, but now Baby O has them constantly.

Things feel like they're picking up speed a little. Lowell and I start our prepared childbirth class tonight, and I signed up for a one-night session of Lamaze "just for fun."
This morning I skipped breakfast and headed to the hospital for my 3-hour glucose tolerance test. Not fun, but far less awful than all the reports I've heard. Crossing my fingers that I am not diabetic - I really don't want to have to alter my dietary habits at this stage in the game!
I am working on interviewing a doula at the moment. I have contacted one and am waiting for a reply before trying others. Hopefully I can cross that task off my to-do list this week!
Baby O is kicking away this morning - probably payback for all the dancing I did over the weekend... or else he's got a sugar high from the Glucola followed by a hospital-supplied Rice Krispy treat (and the subsequent brownies I had in the car...).

Not much to report lately - I'm officially having an uneventful pregnancy. Not that I'm complaining! The biggest development of late is my belly - I'm huge! Thanks to all the folks that have felt the need to comment on this, too...
The nursery is painted, dresser and crib assembled, artwork hung, but that's about it. The room is clean - that's the biggest challenge - not reverting to using it as a storage space. Let's see how long I can resist - I'm taking bets!

Ever since that first kick, this little guy has been noticeably on the move. Last week he must have been doing summersaults, and last night he decided to jump up and down (or so it felt) - right on my bladder! We were on our way home from the A.F.I. concert and I've had quite a bit of water, so I was trying to think dry thoughts... when suddenly I felt a sharp poke in the bladder. Not good! It happened several more times during the drive - I've lucky I got home as quickly as I did!
Last night was also the very first total stranger belly grope. In line for the ladies room, a girl notices my belly and feels compelled to tell me about her 3 month old at home and how much fun kids are. Super, thanks for sharing! Then she reaches out and rubs my belly. Um, yeah, not cool! Fortunately for me (and her!) the line moved along at that time, and I escaped... This had better not become a regular occurance!

Not sure what he's doing in there today, but it feels like this little one is either doing somersaults or tap dancing. He's super active today - the most activity to date. Not that I'm complaining - it's quite nice. Just not sure if I'm causing the agitation or it's just the natural progression of things! I guess we'll see as time passes this week - this might be the new norm.
Yesterday my mom came up and painted the nursery for us. It's a pretty green, and goes well with the furniture Lowell and I assembled last night. Can't wait to hang all the art prints we just framed.
I also spent some time registering last week during my downtime. There is so much stuff out there! I'm trying not to get too much in the way of "extras" - all those things my mommy friends have told me are useless, but it's kind of hard to tell when you're faced with walls of stuff at Target!
