"While I was relaxing in the hospital bed my mom gets a text from my
brother saying that my sister-in-law Amanda
was in labor, too!"
Ready for baby
My husband and I found out on September 6, 2009 that we were pregnant with our first baby! A few weeks later we found out that my brother and sister in-law were pregnant with their first baby as well! My husband and I live three hours from my brother and sister in-law so through the whole pregnancy I was always questioning my mom on what she would do if we went into labor on the same day. Of course, everyone always reassured me that this wouldn't happen.
37 weeks into the pregnancy I started having contractions that were 8 minutes apart, but I could hardly feel them. When I went to my 37 week doctor's appointment (a Monday) she said I was measuring bigger than I should and I was also losing weight. So she asked me if I wanted to be induced. Of course I said yes! I was huge and swollen and ready to meet my baby boy! She made the appointment for me to be admitted to the hospital on May 6 at 8 p.m. (Thursday). My husband and I were sooo excited! When Thursday finally came, I worked a half day and then went home to make sure everything was ready for the hospital. My mom and older sister, Shannon, met my husband and I at Olive Garden for my "last meal" before the hospital!
Off to the hospital
Once I got admitted they let me take a relaxing bath before hooking the IV up. While I was relaxing in the hospital bed my mom gets a text from my brother saying that were on their way to the hospital because Amanda was in labor, too! Yep. Everyone told me this wouldn't happen and of course it was happening! My mom knew I needed her there with me so her and my step dad decided to stay with me until Layton was there and then they would drive to see Kailyn!
At 6:30 a.m. on Friday they gave me the Pitocin. Once that kicked in I started to really feel my contractions so I requested for my epidural to be put in. WOW! That thing is amazing! I was able to take a long nap. My doctor came in around 12:30 and said I was at a 5 and that she would be back in a few hours. Well then my nurse came in at 1:30 and I was at a 9 and you could just see the surprise in her eyes! She left the room to call my doctor to let her know my progress. She came back in at 2 p.m. and I was at a 9 and the babies head was crowning! So she had me do a few pushes with her and then called my doctor and told her to get there now! I only pushed a few more times once my doctor got there. Layton was born at 2:57 on May 7, 2010 that same day Layton's cousin, Kailyn, was born as well.
