"I was 5-6 cm and she decided it was best for the baby to do an emergency c-section. Talk about scary."

50/50 chance

I went in at 8 pm on Tuesday, August 21st to start an induction. I still had zero progress at this point. They started me off on cytotec. Our little girls heartbeat kept dropping so they skipped my next dose that should have been at 4am. The doctor came in the next day at 9 am and inserted another cytotec after giving the baby some time. She had said if the baby didn't cooperate with this round we would do a c-section. At this point she said it was a 50/50 chance. The baby decided to cooperate with it though this time. They then started the pitocin. I was still making very slow progress. By 8 pm Wednesday night I was only 3 cm dilated and 25% effaced.

They kept increasing the pitocin making contractions very hard and intense. I was able to breath through them pretty easily. At about 10 pm I asked for some relief but I wasn't ready for the epidural yet.I I was still only at 3cm but was in great pain. They gave me some nubane which didn't take the pain away but helped relax me. I was able to laugh and joke between the contractions still at this point.

Joking through the pain

At 12:00 am Thursday the pain was absolutely crazy. I was so tired and in pain by this time, that the next 2 hours are a little blurry and I don't remember much. My little sister was there and saw me puking and in pain and I remember telling her this is why you leave your legs closed (LOL). They gave me another round of nubane because they said I couldn't have the epidural quite yet bc of the lack of progress, lets just say the nubane didn't work. They had been upping the pitocin gradually all day and I was getting loads of it. I remember I would sleep between each contraction and every 2 minutes when the next contraction would come I wouldn't even open my eyes but I just remember the pain being unbearable. I begged for the epidural and they finally said I could have it. By this time I was puking and felt like someone was ripping my stomach open and I was only at 5 cm!  When they said 5 cm I couldn't believe it! I thought for sure I was at 12 cm or 13 cm. They finally gave me the epidural at about 1:00 am (Thursday). It was HEAVEN! Getting the epidural was not bad either. It didn't really hurt but felt lots of weird pressure in my back. I was vomiting during the procedure and having to stay still during the contraction was very hard but once the epidural was in, I had instant relief from the pain.

Emergency c-section

At about 1:30 am the babies heart rate kept raising rapidly with every contractions. They called my doctor and she came in to check me out. I was 5-6 cm and she decided it was best for the baby to do an emergency c-section. Talk about scary. The surgeon, nurses, on call OB (my DR is not an obstetrician so she can't do a c-section) and my doctor all scattering around to get everything ready. My husband and I were both terrified. I remember looking at my husband and having to smile and making sure he knew we would be alright because his eyes had the look of terror in them. She was finally born at 2:38 am on Thursday, August 23rd by emergency c-section. She weighed in at 7 lb 9 3/4oz and is 21 inches long. She has a full head of dark hair. She is absolutely gorgeous!

Here comes Braelyn!

She got cut during the c-section because she was face up but they put some butterfly tape on her and said it should heal without a scar. We are so in love with her. I didn't know it was possible to love someone this much. We can't get enough of her and thank God every day for this blessing. The doctor felt awful but there wasn't much he could do to prevent it. We are just lucky it wasn't the eye, although it was only about 1/2 inch away.

It feels great to have our baby home and we are enjoying every moment of it!

Talk about a rough time. I feel sorry that you had so much pain. My birth experience wasn't bad and it happened pretty much as I wanted. Congrats on your little one.
