"Wow" is really all that I can say.
Baby #3 is a boy...
We went for our 20 week ultrasound yesterday afternoon and before the tech could even wave her little wand on my belly... there it was. At this point, I know what I'm looking for, believe me, so I told the tech before she was able to tell me.
Of course, Daddy is delighted and I'm officially out of the golf foursome. But that's the risk you take ;)
Three little guys - there is something I really like about it and let's be honest, a sweet little girl would be wasted on lives that currently have more to do with daily survival and making sure you come home with the same number you left with than matching hair bows.
I never saw it coming, but here I am, the mother of all boys. Unless of course, I can talk you know who into a #4...

It's almost 1:30 am and I just finished baking and decorating sugar cookies for Reilly's preschool Christmas party tomorrow. I'm so tired right now but I don't think I can fall asleep yet after licking frosting off my fingers for the past hour.
I know, I know - "why did you wait so late to make them?" -- well, who knew the dough had to chill for 2 hours? That was not in the schedule! I hadn't planned on making them but in thinking about our day tomorrow I suddenly had visions of a sad little guy sitting alone while everyone else ate their delicious milk, egg & nut laden cookies some other, more organized mom brought in. Usually, I send one treat for him that goes with whatever the activity is (a cup cake for a birthday, etc) but this time, in the spirit of Christmas, I decided to inflict my children's unfortunate food options and my lack of baking skills on the whole class -- and I made a couple extra for the teachers too.
Sometimes my husband drops Reilly off at school in the morning on his way into the office but tomorrow, I'll be sure to be the drop-offee so I can soak in all the "wow! You made all those?" from the other guilty feeling moms who will at that moment know that I love my child more.
I also put a few to the side so Reilly can decorate them before school. This way, when the teacher asks "Reilly, did you help mommy make these holiday cookies?" He will answer with a firm "Yes!!" because between you and I -- I just ate one as I'm writing, and they are disgusting...
Happy Holidays!

If you have a child with food allergies (or two in my case) then you know the value in any product that makes managing the allergies easier. Williams Sonoma makes a one man cup cake holder that's great. It's called the Cup-A-Cakes.
Now that Reilly is in school, I send it in his lunch box whenever his class is having a birthday or holiday party. I keep a batch of egg free, dairy free cupcakes in the freezer and a supply of frosting handy so I can have it ready to go in a minute. The Cup-A-Cake holder keeps the cupcake from getting crushed so that at party time - Reilly has as nice a looking treat (and hopefully tasting) as his friends. Another bonus is that the sturdy holder sits nicely on top of a cake box so that there is never any confusion when dessert is being handed out!!
Its also perfect for when we go to birthday parties, I can throw it in my bag and pull it out at cake time with no mess, and no hassle.
Definitely worth the $10.50!!

Meals in my home are a challenge, to say the least...
With a toddler and a preschooler, most meals are rejected by either being thrown on the floor or pushed away with an enragingly polite "oh, no thank you, Mommy". Throw in a couple food allergies and a picky husband and you've got the idea
With that said, when I find something that we all actually eat and enjoy - I have to share!
This month's Bon Appetit has a recipe for Chicken and White Bean Soup with Herb Swirl. It's really easy to make and you can add as much or little "swirl" to make it a kid friendly meal or a satisfying grown up dinner. I served it as a soup for my husband, my 3 year old and myself and gave the baby a plate of beans, chicken and veggies. The fresh herbs made it a little more expensive but are necessary for the flavor. My solution was to make a big batch and freeze half and then also put the leftover herbs in the freezer for another day.
Below find the recipe, it was a big hit and very allergy/kid/husband friendly.
8 tlbs extra-virgin olive oil, divided
2 tsp chopped fresh sage
2 tsp chopped fresh thyme
1 tsp chopped fresh rosemary
1/4 tsp salt
1 lb skinless boneless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 small onion, chopped
2 medium carrots, halved lengthwise, cut crosswise into 1/4-inch pieces
1 large celery stalk, thinly sliced
1/2 cup tomato puree
4 cups low-salt chicken broth
2, 15 ounce cans cannellini beans, drained
1/2 cup fresh Italian parsley leaves
1 bay leaf
Heat 4 tablespoons olive oil and next 4 ingredients in a small skillet over medium heat until herbs are aromatic, about 1 1/2 minutes. Pour herb oil into bowl. Cool.
Heat 2 tablespoons oil in large pot over medium heat. Saute chicken 5 minutes. Using slotted spoon, transfer chicken to bowl. Add 2 tablespoons oil to pot. Add onion, carrots, and celery. Saute until beginning to brown about 15 minutes. Mix in last 5 ingredients. Bring to boil. Reduce heat; simmer 15 minutes. Add chicken; simmer until cooked through, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Ladle soup into bowls. Gently swirl 1 teaspoon herb oil into center of each.

Today was what Sundays are suppose to be.
JP woke up with B this morning at 6 am and let me sleep in. Reilly mysteriously ended up in our bed at some point during the night and slept in with me ;) By the time I responded to the 20 "Mommy, its time to wake up" and stumbled out of bed, coffee was made and the Wiggles were rockin on the TV.
JP took the boys out for a couple hours and I spent the afternoon cooking up a storm and doing 60 loads of laundry. Laundry has become a cross in my world. Its the not the actual laundrying that is the issue, its the folding and putting away of the laundry. I often have a mound of clean clothes on the chair in my bedroom that just gets picked through for days at a time. So, I decided to start my week by providing myself and my loved ones with some clean and folded underwear and I feel good about it.
Dinner, baths and bed all happened early and it's now 8pm and the house is quiet aside from JP yelling at the NY Giants next to me. I'm going to shut down my computer and go relax next to him, not because I care in the least about football, but because its a great way to end a good day.
Good night!

Well, he's a big boy now...
Reilly started nursery school today. I know, I know, it's almost October. We had him enrolled originally for the start of the school year but as it approached, I got nervous and pulled him out. As soon as I did, I regretted it. Thankfully, the school had not yet filled his spot so they took him back.
We all walked over this morning and Reilly ran ahead the whole time, he was so excited... it didn't take long for that excitement to turn into concern however. He announced suddenly to the teacher that "we would come back later" and started walking backwards towards the door! After talking him off the ledge, he agreed to stay for a while, and of course, ended up having a blast!
I'm so proud of him and can't believe what a great little boy he has become but like all parents, while I celebrate every new step these guys take there will always be a part of me that wishes I could simply stop the clock.
Wish my little guy luck in his new life as a preschooler.

I'm really excited - today is my first day working with The Bump Community and I've decided to start blogging so I can share the hilarity and utter chaos that has become my life.
Right now is my absolute favorite time of the day... naptime.
On the days I can get Reilly and Brady or "B" as we call him, to take a nap at the same time - no matter what else has transpired, I consider the entire day a sucess. The laundry could be piled up, dishes in the sink, emails left unanswered but with a simultaneous nap I walk with my head high, no matter how unshowered I am.
Seriously, it's the best. Even if it only lasts for 30 mins before one awakes, it gives me time to regroup, do the things I need to do for myself and soak in the silence. Ahhh... can you hear it? Silence.
Oh boy, gotta run, someone is screaming "Mommy!!". LOL
