Tool: Kick Count Log

Posted Tuesday, May 15, 2007 8:41 AM

There’s tons of different ways to take a fetal kick count, but we think this one’s easiest: Set aside some time when baby’s usually pretty active, and start counting baby's movements. Record the time you start, and again when you’ve felt ten kicks. Ideally, you’ll feel ten within two hours (likely, much less). If not, call your doc. Click image to download the pdf. re: Tool: Kick Count Log

Exactly when should the counting start? Which week?

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

hmmm....just today my doc told me in was 10 kicks in ONE hour, not two. so which is it? I am 25 weeks. is it different depending on which week you are in?

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

I usually feel ten within two minutes.  Also to the previous questions, according to my OB you should start counting at 28 weeks.

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

I usually feel 10 in a few minutes also. Could it just be rolling over? How do I distinguish between the two?

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

My Dr. wants me to start at 26 weeks and said to call if I don't feel 10 in 1 hour.

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

yeah, I think the info with the tool is incorrect. "All" the books and my doctor have told me 10 in an hour. Plus, you should be counting 'any' movement, not just kicks, so rolling over counts, too.

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

everything I have read says 10 movements, not necessarily kicks.

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

yep, my doc say that I should start counting the baby's movement just recently (i'm about 34 weeks now).  she said that the baby should move 10 times within an hour.  like others, 10 movements in a matter of minutes.  i think this is normal, right?

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

I think they say 10 in 2 hours because they don't want to freak you out too early. If my daughter has a pretty calm day, i freak out...knowing that she's fine. Plus it's not until fairly late into your pregnancy you really start counting. I wouldn't worry TOO TOO much. Like they say, every baby and pregnancy is different.

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

When does kicking start?  I'm almost 11 weeks but I'm curious and excited to feel that first kick =)

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

How do you tell if it is a kick or a rollover?

Sorry I am a first time mom!

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

I am 25 weeks, and my little girl kicks SO much more than 10 kicks every 2 hours.  Sometimes she's so active she kicks three times that amount.

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

I am 17 weeks and I felt kicks and movement at 16. I'm 1st time mom also so when I feel the rumbling in my belly (sound like gas) what type of activity is the baby doing. I need to ask my Dr at next visit

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

I am 27 weeks Tom. And Everyone can already feel him move from the outside. It has been that way for about a Month. I know he wakes up and Moves Every 2 1/2 to 3 Hours. 3-6-9- etc.. Is it normal for him to be on a schedule already?

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

Our baby moves all day long. There's no way that he/she is only moving 10 times per hour! It had hiccups the other day, which was interesting. Can anyone else see the baby moving? We were sitting on the couch and my belly was moving all over the place. I didn't start showing until three weeks ago, and now I really look preggo. The baby has go to weigh two pounds by now, I will find out on Monday.

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

I was told 10 movements within a maximum of 2 hours. Our LO is so active after I eat that I have 10 in a few seconds.

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

I was never told to do this with my 9 and 6 year olds...and it was only suggested with my 2 year old. But with this one, the OB was really on it, and said it was "required?" Never knew there were requirements for having a baby!

And like someone else said...I feel 10 in a minute or less lol

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

I am 21 weeks and I am so not sure of what is a movement or if it's just gas or what. The only time I knew for sure I felt something was a week ago it felt like the baby did a complete circle! I was soo caught off guard because I have never felt something like that. How do I know if the baby is doing movement, I had an ultrasound at 17 weeks and from that they said the baby was very active and I have another one tomorrow, but the feeling of baby movement still seems to have me clueless.

re: Tool: Kick Count Log

If I feel well more then 10 in just a few minutes should I count more then just 1 hour's worth? I mean 10 kicks in a 24 hour period, really?
