Hi Doctor, When does my cycle offically begin?  I often spot very lightly for a day or so (sometimes a day apart) and then my flow begins.  Does my cycle begin with spotting or flow?

I do not have regular cycles so I can get very frustrated waited for my cycle to begin each month.

I am 24 and have never been pregnant, my husband has 3 children from a previous marriage. How likely is it to be able to get pregnant if my 35 year old husband reverses his vasectomy?

re: Dr. Joseph Hill

I recently got married in September. I'm going to be 40 years old in December and never been pregnant. I had chemo therapy in 2005 for Hodgkins Lyphoma. I still have regular periods. My husband (40 years old) and I would like to have a child. In his previous marriage (childless), he was told as having sperm that do not swim straight although that was not necessarily the cause of their infertility.

Besides the obvious, what steps should we take to ensure that we are capable of having children together?

re: Dr. Joseph Hill

I was on birth control for 3 years. The first two on the pill and then a year with the patch. I had a normal period right after I stopped. But this month I didn't have one at all. No symtoms at all either. I took a blood test to see if I was pregnant but it came out negative. What might have caused this? please help.

I've read up on all i need to do to get ready to conceive, but what about my husband? Should he be taking any supplements? I've heard zinc increases sperm count, is this true?

re: Dr. Joseph Hill

This question is in reference to using ovulation calculators.  I often spot a few days before actually starting my period.  Which date would be considered my "first date of the cycle" when trying to use a ovulation calc?

Thank you for this great resource.  It's comforting to know that there are others experiencing the same situations that I am with trying to get pregnant.

Do we both have to have an orgasm during intercourse to get pregnant?

Q: Tracking Irregular Periods when TTC and Can they be a sign of infertility or Reproductive Issues?

I have an issue. I sometimes have irregular periods my husband and I have not been using any form of birth control since December 07. He has a child from a previous marriage. I have never been pregnant and have been off birth control for several years now. We are in the "if it happens, it happens" state of mind and we would be happy if it does. My concern is that my periods are almost impossible to track, most of the time they come within a weeks time frame from the date of my last period but recently it has disapeared for almost 2 months now. I have taken 2 tests at the Doctor's office a month ago and 2 different home pregnancy tests all with the same result... NEGATIVE. So I'm not sure what my options are... My body does not feel any different, and I have been a little stressed from work but not so much that I would miss my period for 2 months. So my questions are...

1. How can I keep track of my period when we start actively trying to have a baby?

2. Could it be a reproductive issue with my periods, if so do you think it may alter my abilities to get pregnant in the future?

Any imput you may have would be very much appreciated.

re: Dr. Joseph Hill

I have been using the Nuva Ring for about a year now.  I placed what was thought to had been my "new" Nuva Ring in on the correct day however I placed the one in that had not been refrigerated and I re-started my period 6 days later.  Now we've decided to start trying to conceive.  When do I count my lmp? My first cycle on 6/10 or the accidental cycle on 6/21?

Pregnancy and Cancer

My husband has just been diagnosed with kidney cancer.  At this stage, he has a very small tumor (about 2.5 cm).  At it's size the doctors don't think it is likely that it has spread (but it is very unlikely that someone at his age, 28, would have this type of cancer at all).  The doctors say that chemo doesn't work with this kind of cancer, so, they are going to insert a needle and burn the tumor as well as surrounding areas.  Will this have any affect on his ability to concieve?

re: Dr. Joseph Hill

I had pregnancy-like symptoms all this month. My Breasts have been very tender, I am really tired and felt really drained through out the month. during the month, I had slight cramping... nothing huge, but I was uncomfortable around my pelvic area... I took a pregnancy test and it was negative on the 12th.  Now I believe my period has started today (although lighter than usual). I am concerned as I have had similar symptoms this year in June. Only I had more nausea and less tiredness. Do you know what could be wrong?

re: Dr. Joseph Hill

Hi. I have been on the pill for a few months and this past months I was late taking the pill twice. I have not gotten my period yet and I am suppose to have it. Could I be preganant? I took two pregnancy tests and they both were negative but I still have not gotten my period. Any thoughts?

re: Dr. Joseph Hill

We have been trying for almost 9 months now and still not pregnant. My husband will have to start chemo this month. Will this prevent us from conceiving? Is it too late to start banking?

Having Turner's Syndrome vs not having Turner's Syndrome

Hi. I have question... I have been told by my endocrinologist that I have Turner's syndrome and then when I received the lab work in the mail it doesn't say that. It actually lists 3 different possible diagnisis'. I am so confused and frustrated about this and I am not sure what htis means or what to do! I have an appointment with an RE next week. Any advice?

re: Dr. Joseph Hill

I'm in my early thirties and have never been pregnant.  In the past I've worked with radioactive material, and I have a family history of mental illness.  Would you recommend genetic testing, fertility testing, or both? I'm nervous that I might not have "normal children."

re: Dr. Joseph Hill BTT and Night shift

I started working night shift  in Oct. and I am wondering when the best time is to chart.  I've read that you should chart after the longest sleep, but the times are so erratic that I chose instead to chart after 5 hours of sleep no matter what time I go to bed.  Is this wrong?

I haven't Ovulated since Sept. after coming off the pill.  Should I change my charting method?

With erratic temps and temp times would charting still show if I really am ovulating?

Here is a link to my chart

Thanks!

re: Dr. Joseph Hill

I'm 23 yrs. old and just recently married. My husband and myself have been trying for about 1 1/2 yrs. to conceive with no success. I do have a 5 yr old daughter and have had 2 abortions about 2 yrs ago (before i met my husband). Is the abortions the reason why i'm having trouble conceiving now? My paps have been fine. What can i do to increase my chances?
