Road Trip!

We took our very first family road trip over the weekend, and despite the scorching heat things went pretty well. DH, the baby, and I headed west to visit my grandmother in the small town where I was raised. The normal 3 ½ hour drive took us a little over 4 hours (not bad as far as I’m concerned), and the baby slept for a good chunk of that time. Once we arrived, we had a great time with grandma – eating pizza, playing cards, and looking through boxes of old photos. She just turned 89 and though her health isn’t perfect, she’s still living on her own, playing cards twice a week, and meeting up with her friends at the local Elks Lodge for Ladies’ Night. It was the first time she’d seen Patrick in person so we took loads of photos, which I can’t wait to have developed. Yes, you read that right – I have to get the photos developed. I remembered the portable baby swing, the Mylicon drops, and even a corkscrew, but I forgot the digital camera! Luckily, the local grocery story had disposable cameras. If I had been prepared, I would have packed the digital in our extremely functional Diaper Backpack from Eddie Bauer. It was a gift from DH’s boss, and it’s just the right size for packing up the little one’s stuff for a weekend getaway. We packed four changes of baby clothes, 2 receiving blankets, my breast pump, and enough diapers and wipes to last us for four days and there was still room left! The successful weekend has left us feeling confident enough to plan another getaway for fall.
