Welcome to The Bump Community!  We hope that these technical FAQ's can help you get set up here on The Bump so that you can find a board and join the discussion. (A special thanks to Bump user Ambsies for inspiring us with her own ingenious Bump technical FAQ.)

 

Questions about posting

 1. How to make a poll

Click "Write a new post" and enter your subject line. Next, click the "Poll" tab (above the subject line). See below:

 

Enter your "Poll Question" and use "Add Answers" to create poll options. Finally, click "Post." 

2. How to include a picture in a post

To add a photo, you can either use the "photo" icon (the colorful picture of a tree) or the "HTML" icon on the toolbar of your post.

If you use the "photo" icon, you can copy and paste the URL of the image into the top line that says "Image URL." You can then edit the dimensions (640x480 are ideal dimensions for a photo (if a picture is too big, it won't fit in the post).

If you use the "HTML" logo, a new window will pop-up. Paste the "html code" from for your image into this area and then click "update." The picture should now appear in your message. Press "Post," and voila!

 3. How to make a click-able link in your post

 Click on the icon that looks like a chain and a link.

 

A pop-up box will appear. Under "Link URL," copy and paste the link that you would like the page to redirect to. The second line is personal preference; you can either choose to open the link in a new window, or open the link the current window. Finally, in "Title," write what you want the click-able link to say. For example, these blue words.

 

 How to edit your avatar and signature:

 This is one of the most frequently asked technical questions.

 

1. Click on "My Bump" on the upper left-hand side of the page.
2. Click "Edit my Avatar & Sig."
3. To edit your Avatar, click "upload images" (the second tab). You can then add an image from your computer. You can also use one of The Bump's images by clicking the third tab, "Choose one of our designs."

 

If you are only interested in adding text to your signature, you can enter it in the text box that appears below. Click "Save My Signature" when you are finished. You're done! (Easy, right?)

To view your signature, go back to one of your previous posts (you can do this by clicking "My Posts" on your Bump Bio page). Your signature will now appear at the bottom. If you want to keep updating your signature until it's perfect, you can preview it simply by refreshing the page of one of your posts.

4. If you would like to add a ticker, badge, or click-able link, keep reading:           

4a. To add a click-able link in your signature, use this as an example (photo courtesy of Ambsies):


 Copy your new hyperlink code. Click on "My Bump" in the top left-hand corner. Then, click "Edit my Avatar." Paste your link code into the box below where it says "Signature." Click "Save Changes"

               4b. To add a ticker or badge to your signature,

 Check our our tickers and our badges for TTC, pregnancy, and baby. Click through all of the steps. At the end, copy the HTML that is provided. You can then paste this code into "Forums Signature."

 

Voila! If you selected a ticker, it will now update on its own.

**To have your signature items (tickers, pics, text) on separate lines, add a < br > (without the spaces) in between the different item's codes.
For example:
ticker code < br >
text/blog link < br >
picture

 

Miscellaneous

 1. Private Messages

To view and send private messages, click "My Bump." Then, click "Inbox" on the mid-right side of the page.

 

From there, you can view your new messages. If you want to send someone a private message, you can also click "Contact" at the bottom of a user's post. Then, click "Send [user's name] a private message." 

2. Profile settings

-- To update your shortcuts, click "Edit My Shortcuts" on the top of your My Bump bio page.

-- To update your profile preferences, click "Settings" (right next to "Inbox").

-- To view your recent posts, click "Message Boards" (on the same menu as My Bump, Friends, Photos, Blog, and Milestones).

-- To report a post that you find offensive, click "Report" beneath the post. You can also click "Block" to prevent you and that user from having further contact on the boards.

3. Other resources that might be useful

-- We do have some rules in our Community (for example: no soliciting) and you can read them here

-- To get caught up on all the abbreviations our Bumpies use, read our official glossary here.

-- To chat with moms in your area, find your local board here.

-- To chat with moms who are due in the same month as you, visit your birth month board here.

Good morning.  Is there a way to add more than 1 baby/child?  I had created a profile when we were having our first baby, and now that we are pregnant with #2, I wanted to keep the profile for baby #1, but I can't find a way to do that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't seeme to update my checklist. I have clicked on a couple of them like "consider a babymoon" and "pick up baby books" and clicked refresh and they won't go away. Can you please fix this for me please? My email is melissa.boyd12@gmail.com and that is my log-in as well.

I was a frequent poster on The Bump boards when I was pregnant with my son two years ago.  Now that we're TTC, I'm back.  But my profile is ALL WRONG.  I've updated it through my account page with a new avatar and signature.  Howevever, every time I write a new post, the OLD signature shows up with no avatar at all! Plus, when you click on my name in a post, it doesn't actually lead to my profile but to an error page on The Knot.  I'm so frustrated.  Help!

Hello!  I was wondering if there would be an update for Iphone bump pregnancy.  When typing in the app everyone is unable to see what they are typing and no one can access their 411's.  The program closes every time you try to look at your previous posts or answers.  Thank you so much!!!

I am wanting to update my profile so I can start posting on boards. Whenever I try to log in or update, it comes up with a Server Error message saying "invalid file name" and a bunch of code. I have tried multiple ways to get in over the past several days, with the same message each time. My email is kvasquez8@gmail.com. Please help! Thank you!

I need to delete my account. I had a knot account and I didn't end up getting married. Now I am TTC on my own, but can't get my ex's information off my account. I just want to delete it and start over. I don't want to be reminded of the wedding that never happened every time I'm on the bump. HELP!!!!

I'm trying to update my profile. I was a frequent poster 2 years ago, and now that I want to return to the boards, my signature is not updating and everything in my profile is old. When I try to update it, it links to a new profile that I had to create and doesn't update on this profile at all. Sounds confusing but apparently I have 2 profiles under the same email address. Can someone help me please?

I have been posting on the knot and bump for a while now. I haven't posted in about 6 months or so until recently. Now my Count which was well in the 600s is now down to the 5 posts that i have made. How do I get my post count to show that I am a bronze poster not a newbie.
