The heart burn. Some people told me they got it and some said they didn't. This is my first and The heart burn is bad. I have to take alot of tums so my husband got me the big bottle at Costco.

My contractions, I thought I would know when I was in labor. I didn't and throughout my whole labor they were not as bad as I had antisipated. I really thought they would be extremely painful, I was very pleasantly surprised!

Muscle cramps.  I used to get them in my calves several nights a week, and I would wake up screaming.  They hurt so bad!  I hope to keep those at a minimum next time around!

Frequent trips t the bathroom!! I had read about having an overactive bladder, but I never imagined it would be like this. I think that I should take a pillow and blanket into the bathroom with me at night!!

My cravings for hot foods. If the food isn't hot, forgetaboutit!! Also, the joint pains are extremely annoying. The only "symptom" that I want is my nice little baby bump and that is the one thing I don't have yet :)

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

Black knees...really!  They look dirty but the doctor said it is from the increased melatonin due to pregnancy hormones.  He said it "should" go away!  It looks like I haven't scrubbed my knees in months.

It is 8 weeks post delivery now and they are still black, although fading.

Drool.  No one told me to expect all this inceased saliva and a pillow soaked with spit when I wake up.  Someone would have warned my husband too!

WADDLING!  I use to see pregnant women waddling like ducks and always thought to myself, "I am going to maintain my posture no matter what"! Well, guess who's waddling like a duck now, Me! My baby and belly are surprisingly heavy! Then again, it is my first pregnancy!

The round ligament pains. I read about them in my pregnancy books but nothing could have prepared me for the sharp pains. Sometimes they took my breath away and I would just have to sit still until the pain subsided.

I totally mellowed out and became the laid back gal I was 10 years ago - yay! I expected pregnancy to give me more anxiety and worry over making a good home for baby, being a good mom, etc. But the complete opposite happened and I'm so thankful. I'm myself again for the first time in years:)

My cravings for orange food!  Maybe it is the salt content.  Just about anything orange -- cheezies, cheddar cheese, macaroni and cheese, you name it.  :)  Oranges and orange juice too.

My 2nd pregnancy in general. My first pregnancy was so easy and I felt so good. My 2nd one kicked my butt. I was exhausted and everything hurt from my head to my toes. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat though!

Sorry, but I have to say the gas.  And it seems to have gotten worse in the 3rd tri - I was able to hide it from DH through the 2nd tri, but now the poor guy knows too well what I'm going through.  I can't help it!  Eating extra fiber due to iron supplementation isn't helping matters!

I heard of cravings during pregnancy, which I had occassionally.  However, no one told me I would start craving things AFTER he was born!  Its like my beautiful little buy still controls my body.  He already controls my sleep pattern, can't I crave what I want now? lol

How much my knees & ankles would hurt from the extra weight vs. how little I would notice my belly while jogging!  Oh, and a craving for grapefruit....

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

The pregnancy symptom that surprised me the most was the fact that I couldn't stand to cook in my 1st trimester.  I don't know what it was, but the thought of opening up the fridge and looking at or touching raw meat really disgusted me.  Obviously I had heard of morning sickness and/or cravings (both of which I haven't really had)...but the fact that I couldn't cook the hubby some food was very surprising!

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

More like what didn't surprise me?!? I expected a wonderful, amazing experience. What I got was NINE MONTHS of all-day sickness (I was even puking while in labor!), SIXTY POUNDS of baby weight, and a WHOLE LOT of stretch marks DESPITE my using cocoa butter every day. Plus I was lucky enough to get the dark line across my stomache which still hasn't left!!!So swimsuits are out-- but what surprised me even more was how much I could love the little man i gave birth to, and that he could make it all worth while.

I have had severe Hot flashes to the point of having to take my clothes off and sprint to my bedroom to strip my clothes off, close the door with the air conditioner turned on blasting the coldest setting it can go until it I return back to normal. That is what I call Hormone change in a flash!

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

The pregnancy symptom that surprised me the most was gall stones! Who would've known they could replicate labor! At eight months, I thought I was in labor only to find out that I had awful gall stones. I spent two days in the hospital, had to extremely change my diet, and had it removed four weeks after giving birth. Yikes!

The pregnancy symptom that surprised me the most was that I developed an allergy to stone fruits like cherries, apricots and peaches. I always ate a lot of these and was fine, now if I eat them my throat is all itchy!

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

I spit like I chew tobacco! The doctor has assured that I am fine and it is just one of those random things that happens to some pregnant women.  He also said there is nothing they can do to stop it.  So,  I carry around a plastic cup with tissue paper in it everywhere I go.  It is so gross!  I keep trying to dress up to make myself feel more glamorous but the spit cup kills my fashion!

The stretchmarks!  I knew I'd get some, but I didn't think they would cover my whole belly!  Yuck!  It looks like I got attacked by a bobcat or something.  And now they are starting to show up on my thighs, my hips, even my armpits!  Sheesh!  And I've only gained about 15 pounds.  No fair!

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

PUPPP. It's a real condition that involves papules that appear on your skin around the legs, butt, and adjoining areas. I had a few of these appear during my first pregnancy with my son. It was very uncomfortable and embarrassing. There wasn't anything that could be done about it. But I had to keep them clean. I am now left with scars, small skin tags, indents etc... Luckily with my current pregnancy this did not happen.

Snoring!  I had never snored before I was pregnant (my husband wil vouch for that!), but I started to really snore in December and googled reasons why this would start all of the sudden.  When pregnancy was listed as one of them, I decided to test and sure enough...  Hopefully (for my husband's sake) it will stop once the baby is here!

I think my most surprising symptom was the 9 month long gassy stomach! I certaintly didn't expect to find myself passing gas all the time. Apparently it happens while I'm asleep too, as my DH so kindly informed me. I even had a problem during my last two weeks getting my gas problems confused for contractions!

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

The swelling... OH THE SWELLING! It started in my hands around 20 weeks, I noticed my rings were getting a tad too tight. No biggie I figured that would happen..... Then I looked in the mirror, HOLY COW who is that girl looking at me in the mirror? It all went south from there, my arms, my legs and just this week, (32 weeks) my cankles, as my husband lovingly refers to them.... where to the ankles start and calves end??? Can I please just look normal again?!

I never expected to get every symptom in the book! I was nauseous for 4 months, had heartburn and had to eat a million tums and sleep almost sitting up, legs cramps, sciatic pain, and I had that "snail trail" and had to wear a pantyliner 24/7. I was swollen, stretchmarked, and sleepy! You name it, I had it!

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

The rashes on my calves. I thought I had razor burn so I stopped shaving for a couple of days but the rash was just as apparent throughout most of the later part of my pregnancy.  The other two horrible incidences were my dislike of chocolate and beef... mind you, both are on my list of favorite foods.

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

I knew we were pregnant weeks before I could test, the first three came back negative!  The only signals were my missed cycle and eventually when my stomach began to grow!

Only real symptom I've had - ny ribs have been aching since about week 26 (33 weeks now).  The skin all around my ribs feel sunburned and are painful to touch.  I haven't been sick, I haven't had unusual back pain, just my ribs stretching and burning.  Didn't think THAT would be my "big problem" during pregnancy!

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

HA!  Not one of the pregnancy symptoms was overly surprising - they were all so text-book (nauseous, check; constipation, check; achey back, check).  However, the final symptom of pregnancy, LABOR, was absolutely SHOCKING.

About a week before I found out we were expecting a small rash formed on my left arm. I knew of "normal" symptons such as morning sickness & mood swings were to come but within the week the small rash ran all over my body. After soaking in oatmeal baths, washing with only non scented hypo allergenic soaps & using Cetaphil lotion is my skin finally calming down. Nobody warned me about this!

I became allergic to my wedding ring.  It happened before I even knew I was pregnant.  I got a horrile rash.  It does not matter what it is, white gold, platinum, or silver, I break out in an ugly itchy rash.  The OB said that can happen.  It was not something I was expecting, especially so soon after becoming pregnant...

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

POP! POP!POP! that is what i would hear from my tummy the last couple months before my daughters due date!! it literally sounded as if my baby ate some pop rocks my husband and i both could hear it i was so scared and it felt as if there were pop rocks as well inside my tummy -the feeling that they give u in ur throat when u eat them only imagine it in your entire stomach! I asked my doctor about it and he said it was the most shocking thing he's ever seen and said it was most likely like a stomach gargle but not.?! didn't help too much but it did go away like days before she was born and haven't had it since! But it is extremely difficult to even look at pop rocks without thinking about the feeling in my throat let alone the feeling my little girl gave me in my stomach!

Ridiculous swelling in my legs/feet.  It actually turned out that I had pre-eclampsia -- my BP wasn't consistently high, just occasionally, and would go back to normal pretty quickly when I was on my side, so they thought the fluid retention was "normal" until my BP was crazy during labor.

how precious every moment of pregnancy is, regardless of the headaches, heartburn and all the other maladies we put up with!  I'm still waiting for my little one to arrive (23wks!), and I'm on bed rest bc of HR preg.  Every day that he stays in my tummy longer, is one more day of healthy chance he will have.  It is torture not to be able to get out of bed, but if it means you can have a healthy baby in the end, its all worth it.

For me it was the LACK OF TIREDNESS that surprised me.  This is my second pregnancy.  When I was pregnant with my son Ethan I was soooo tired.  I would fall asleep at 7:00 at night.  With this pregnancy, having another sweet baby boy, I have COMPLETE ENERGY.  Since the beginning I've been able to stay up at night to 10 or 11 at night.  I am able to run around like I never thought I would be able to.  Especially with having a little one to chase!   I love every moment!!!

Where do I start!?  I'm at 36 weeks so many things have surprised me over the course of my first pregnancy.  My hands, feet and breasts are very warm to the touch.  They're so hot it feels like they're sunburnt!  My doctor says it's from all the increased blood flow, I just didn't read about that anywhere.  Too bad I'm not in my 3rd trimester during the wintertime, it would've been a much easier adjustment.

This mom of four could certainly use a bit of pampering. I'm just to busy to worry about myself for those sort of things because I'm to busy caring for my children's skin. Dealing with eczema with three of my kiddo's makes all the lotioning I can handle with no time left to feel like lotioning my self. Lather me up, I'm waiting.

Gestational Diabetes--I was cruising along my first pregnancy and was very healthy.  At 26 weeks, during a routine test they found out I had gestational diabetes.  I had to watch everything I ate, write it down in a journal, and prick my finger four times a day to take levels.  I thought all pregnant ladies could have ice cream....but not me!

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

The symptom that suprised me the most is the separation of my pubic bone.  The hormone relaxin, which is very necessary during pregnancy and should guide the pubic bone to become "nibble", has over-shot and caused it to pull apart more than necessary.  Actually sooner than necessary as well.  The pain has been incredible and sleep is impossible.  Thankfully it returns to normal after the pregnancy, but yeah I had no idea about that one.

Let's see, PUPP, carpal tunnel, gestational diabetes (with a wicked craving for orange soda which I hate, but I really wanted it even though I couldn't have it!) the worst sunburn I ever had in my life even though I was sitting in the shade and nonstop morning, noon & night sickness for the whole nine months! That was my first pregnancy and the funny thing is I did it two more times after that!

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

For me, the symptom that has been the most surprising is the attack on my own self image.  Before pregnancy, I felt confident in myself and my own beauty.  I wouldn't have considered myself a knockout, but I thought I was pretty and I was happy with the way I looked.  Now, as the belly has expanded, I've noticed that my self image has taken a hit.  It's been tough for me to realize that who I am hasn't change... just the way I look on the outside.  I've had to relearn what I like about myself and make sure that it includes the fact that my body is beautiful because it is growing another human being... another girl, who may one day battle with issues relating to HER self image.  I need to make sure that my self image is strong, no matter what happens to my body, so that one day down the road, I am a good example to the daughter who is currently growing inside me.

My biggest fear is being put on bedrest. Many of my cousins on both sides of my family and my mom (for her first pregnancy) were put on bedrest. They all said it was really hard, and sometimes when they stood up they had contractions. Their babies also had problems for the first few months. It's my biggest fear because I live in another state than my family so nobody would be able to help me while DH is at work.

I was prepared for most things, but my early-onset anti-craving took me by surprise.  I've always loved any kind of olive.  About 4 days after we conceived, we were at a family event and I avoided olives entirely--I started suspecting I was pregnant then and there (I think my family did, too).  Months later, I still avoid olives.  It's not a harmful food and I still want pickles quite often, so I can't figure out why delicious olives are so unappealing!

I thought I was through the tough parts of pregnancy. I could tolerate all the other symptoms but Poor Equilibrium caught me by surprise. In fact my balance has gotten so bad that I fell down the steps and broke my ankle in several places and had to have surgery. I was shocked that the rapid growth of my belly could cause so many problems for me. Both the baby and I are doing better and are enjoying the rest that we're getting.

During my pregnancy I ended up with gallstones.  Apparently this is very common for prenant women due to the elevated hormones.  The pain was excruciating throughout the whole 3rd trimester.  Good news is gallbladder removed when DD was 2 weeks old so my next pregnancy I will not have to worry about gallbladder attacks.  Now I will just have to live with the swollen watermelon feet :0)

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

I was most surprised by the crazy vivid dreams! I've always been a big dreamer, but almost as soon as I got pregnant, they started getting more and more vivid, weird, and just plain freaky! I've had DH wake up several times from me tossing or talking in my sleep, I've lost the sense of where I was on waking up, and I've even "seen" our little one in my dreams. No one told me about this, but as soon as I mentioned it to my mom (after a rough week of sleep during my first trimester), she assured me that it's very common. Luckily now, I'm used to it, and can get back to sleep without worrying what things mean, but it sure doesn't make it any less weird.

Swollen ankles!  I had them throughout the whole last 6 months of my last pregnancy!  I have very thin legs to begin with and then I had these huge, I mean huge swollen ankles and feet.  They looked twice the size of my normal foot and I could barely walk on them, they would not bend of flex and literally it was a struggle just walking from room to room on them.

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

The whole labor and delivery experience was the shock of the pregnancy. I must have been leaking fluid for three days looking back, I just figured it was leukorhea. Then my water broke eight weeks early and I thought maybe I had peed my pants. The contraction monitors at the hospital didn't show anything and it wasn't until we were talking with the ultrasound tech as she was running us upstairs to labor and delivery that we found out we were in labor and were more than halfway dilated!

re: Mama Mio Emergency Repair Kit Giveaway

I expected the morning sickness, swelling, growth in the boobie region, etc., but I had severe heart palpitations and shortness of breath, which I end up having to wear a heart monitor for.   I really wasn't expecting that!  The doctor said it was mild tachycardia and nothing to be concerned about.  I am glad that I mentioned it to my doctor, though, because they were able to rule out anything serious. :)

I am fearful of preeclampsia.3 weeks before my due date I went in to the Dr.'s office because a friend suggested I should. She said I looked extremely pale and swollen. The Dr. found protein in my urine and other signs of preeclampsia. I had never even know what that was and was rushed to the hospital to deliver the baby. I know now how to help prevent it and recognizing the signs and we are trying for number two.

Well I hate stretch marks! but other than that, with my first pregnancy I had morning sickess real early during the pregnancy, however with this one, I didn't get sick at the beginning, I'm now 28 weeks, and I'm nauseas ALL the time!!! Weird!

I think I was most surpirsed how hard it was going to be to go to work.  I expected to feel bad but I never related it to actually making it to work - the train ride alone is tough to get through with the newly developed motion sickness.  I really don't know how women do this - and usually without telling anyone until 12 weeks.  I'm have such a higher respect for my sex!  Women are strong (though maybe we don't feel like it all the time!)
