"Naming this baby boy has been the most challenging part of this pregnancy!"
Catching the baby fever
Adam and I started talking about kids pretty much as soon as we started dating. We knew that we both wanted kids and as our relationship progressed we talked about it a lot. We have so much love for each other and couldn't wait to share it with children. Adam is 9 years older than I am, so I knew I didn't want to wait too long to have kids. We got married in June 2007 and pretty much as soon as the wedding was over, the baby fever set in. Even though I had baby fever, we knew that we wanted to wait at least a year before we started trying for a baby. We decided that we'd start trying in the fall of 2008. The closer we got to that point we decided that August would be "the month." I had been lurking on the pregnancy boards and found out about the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. I ordered it and quit taking birth control so that I could become in-tune with my body for when we start actively TTC.
BFP!
July 28, 2008 was the day that would change our lives forever. I had already noticed I was super tired after work and almost fell asleep on our way to the gym and that my face was breaking out way more than usual. I had read on the pregnancy boards of all these neat ways to tell your husband you were having a baby. So when I did my weekly grocery shopping Sunday night, I decided to buy some cheap pregnancy tests without Adam knowing. Monday morning I woke up earlier than him and decided to take the test. It looked negative so I went back to bed for a while and when I got back up it looked like a positive had shown up. I didn't say anything because it had been 20 minutes since I took it.
After work we went to the gym and needed to go by the store for a few more things, I told Adam that I'd just run in but he needed to grab a few things too. At that point, I decided to tell him about the test that morning and that I was going to test again when we got home. When we got home I took the test immediately. The positive showed up immediately! I walked out of the bathroom and looked at Adam and said "it's positive!." This wasn't the way I wanted to tell him but, the news is all that mattered at that point! It didn't sink in for Adam until I showed him the digital the next morning.
Finding out the gender
I'd had a dream early in the pregnancy that we had a baby boy so I was certain it was a boy. My mom kept telling me the entire time that we were having a girl. All my friends thought we were having a girl too. Adam didn't think either way, he said one day he would think boy the next he would think girl. The morning of our ultrasound I was so nervous because I just wanted a healthy baby. The ultrasound tech asked if we wanted to know the sex and we both said "Yes!" right away. She said "It's a boy!" I don't think I've ever seen Adam smile SO big! I wasn't convinced and made the tech show me two more times. Adam had a permanent smile on his face for the rest of the day. However, naming this baby boy has been the most challenging part of this pregnancy! We recently chose a name but aren't sharing it until he's born.
Excited for the future
We're now within a month to meeting our son and we get more and more excited every day. I've been very lucky and had an easy pregnancy. It has been so much fun setting up his nursery and preparing for his arrival. I can't wait to meet our son and see Adam hold him for the first time.
We are about to embark on the biggest journey of our lives and I can't wait to see how it all plays out.
