"He tears up all the time about our little 'cupcake.' He is so excited about having a baby..."

Unexpected surprise

My husband and I have been married just shy of two years, although we have been together for 11 years. We were not trying to get pregnant, but we were not preventing it either. We wanted to have a baby, but we also were kind of selfish in it being just us and our pets, who are our first babies. In January, I had a feeling I was pregnant because my period was late and it usually comes like clockwork. Although this happened to me before, somehow it felt different this time. I took a pregnancy test and it was positive! I have to be honest; I was shocked, scared and extremely nervous that first night after finding out. My husband was ecstatic and couldn’t stop smiling. It didn’t take long for the news to sink in and for me to feel connected to the life that was growing inside of me -- I was out the next day buying pregnancy books and looking at baby clothes!

Exactly what I needed...

Becoming pregnant has been one of the most profound events that have happened in my life and I would not change it for the world. Even through all the morning sickness, irritability and exhaustion, I love being pregnant and I cannot imagine the feelings I will have when my baby boy is born. I think I have become an overall happier person since I have become pregnant.  Sometimes we lose sight of what really means the most to us  and we need a little nudge from something unexpected to realize we have more than most people and life is truly wonderful.

My husband and I have become even closer in our relationship. Sometimes I think he is even more sentimental and sappy than I am with my pregnancy hormones. He tears up all the time about our little “cupcake”. He is so excited about having a baby. He is adopted and I know that being the best parent he can be is very important to him. He is going to be a wonderful father and I am lucky to have such a man in my life to travel this amazing journey with me.

re: fairychick77's Pregnancy Story

What a lovely story! My story is so similar to yours. My husband and I have been together for more than 10 years and married for just over 2 years. We weren't specifically trying for a baby but weren't preventing one either knowing that we wanted to have a little one in the next year or two. We got pregnant on the first try and are so excited! Just like you, I knew I was pregnant right away..something was different I could just tell. My husband knew I was up to something and waited until I took the test, I think he knew it was positive too. The first 13 weeks I was quite tired and nauseated every night at 7 p.m. I watched a lot of movies in the living room with my dogs! Now I am just shy of 17 weeks along and feeling so much better. I have more energy and am working on various house projects. We also have a litter of puppies that we are caring for through the local shelter until they are old enough for vaccinatons and that has sparked my maternal instincts. I am excited to start decorating the nursery. Have you started that already? We have our 20 week ultrasound June 8. I can't wait to find out if we are having a boy or girl - I think it is a boy. Best of luck on your pregnancy. Cute belly pics!
