"It only took two rounds of Clomid and a few fantastic weekends before I got the call from the doctor's that our lives
were about to change..."
Meant to be
My husband and I met at a bar. While I was dating someone else. Being the loyal girl that I am we only chatted and I left without giving him my number, but I couldn't get him out of my head. Unsure of how to run into this amazing man again (after I ended the relationship with the guy I never liked anyway), I resorted to an old-school tried and true method: the personals ads in the newspaper. Our free weekly paper has a section called I Saw You and I crossed my fingers and placed the notice. Matt never saw it, but his friend did. I guess I was specific enough that this friend was certain Matt was the target of the ad and he showed it to him one night. Pretty excited, because he says he kept thinking about me too, he responded. But the mailbox had expired so I never got his reply. Being the industrious and persistent guy that he is, Matt placed his own ad, which I saw and promptly responded to. A few emails back and forth was all it took to set up our first real date. A few months and a trip to Paris and it was love!
...Then came marriage
We dated for four years before we finally tied the knot. In that time we traveled, switched jobs a time or two, moved in together, and bought a house. Two days before we got married the local neighborhood got the best of Matt and he came back from a soda-run empty handed but with a black eye (courtesy of local teenage punks). Thank goodness for a great makeup artist and my never-ending love for that man -- the wedding was still on. We were married outdoors in a beautiful garden ceremony, serenaded by an a cappella group and surrounded by our closest friends and family.
Time for baby
Seeing as how marriage was going so well for us, we decided to kick it up a notch and we adopted our first baby, Driver. Now weighing in at 70+ pounds, he's taught us patience, the importance of regular potty breaks, and how quickly we fell in love with being "mommy" and "daddy."
I went off the pill just after our honeymoon and was surprised that I never got my period back. I ended up at a reproductive endocrinologist's office, and after several panels of bloodwork that didn't show much, other than that my hormones weren't really communicating with each other, I started clomid. It only took two rounds and a few fantastic weekends with my handsome husband before I got the call from the doctor's office that our lives were about to change.
As we've gotten closer Matt's gone from pretty freaked out (but excited all the same) to telling me that he's excited about becoming a dad. I've maybe done the opposite and gone from being cool, calm, and confident, to nervous and a little scared. But all in all I can't wait to add this precious baby to my family. The nursery might not be done (yet) and we could probably pad the savings account a bit more, but the love, it's all there. And then some!
