My Phoenix Pregnancy

After a year and two rounds of fertility treatments, Jennifer Hamblin dishes on the highs (finding out she was pregnant) and lows (getting asked if she’s having twins!).
Q: How did you and your husband spread the word that you were expecting?
A: We didn’t really share the news about the pregnancy. But when we found out we were having a girl, we took three separate pictures of our toddler, Rowan, holding signs that read: “It’s,” “A,” and “Girl!”
Q: What little indulgences or cravings did you give in to during pregnancy?
A: I treated myself to an occasional black iced tea from Starbucks. I also went through a spurt of craving Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Once my nausea wore off, I loved eating out at Abuelo’s and In-N-Out Burger, two of my favorites!
Q: What about maternity clothes? Did you have fun shopping for them?
A: The shopping is one of the best things about being pregnant in Phoenix! I got a few things from Target -- they have some really good stuff. I lived in my black yoga pants, though, and had two favorite maternity tanks. One said “Knocked Up” and the other had a heart that said “Let Love Grow.”
Q: What were your favorite activities while pregnant?
A: Sleeping! I really did try to take it easy. In the beginning, I tried to get some exercise by doing cardio at the gym and walking a lot. I also loved our last prebaby getaway weekend at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa. We floated in their lazy river, had an amazing dinner at Mastro’s Ocean Club, shopped, and enjoyed the complimentary strawberries and sparkling cider. I indulged in a facial too!
Q: Your advice for other moms-to-be?
A: Enjoy it because it goes so fast. Try not to get caught up in the anxiety and worry, though I know that’s hard not to do. Sleep as much as you can, accept other people’s offers to help, and take a breastfeeding class! Check out KellyMom.com, a great breastfeeding resource on the web. Of course, What to Expect When You’re Expecting was super-helpful too.

I found most of my maternity clothes at Tailored for Two Maternity in Chandler, (480) 893-0465.
