Q: Pregnancy tests and the pill?

Q: Can the pill alter pregnancy test results?

Dr. Joseph Hill: No, the birth control pill does not alter the results of the beta hCG pregnancy test.

From the editors: Your question makes sense, because the pill contains hormones, and home pregnancy tests work by measuring hormone levels. However, birth control contains estrogen or progesterone (or both), while pregnancy tests look for a different hormone called HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). So, birth control has no effect on home pregnancy tests.

re: Q: Pregnancy tests and the pill?

I was hoping to find the answer to this question! We are still on the pill, so obviously not actively TTC but AF is 3 days late and I've been feeling some nausea. Maybe I'm just jumping the gun, but I'm wondering if it's to soon to take a test.
