Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

Posted Tuesday, February 05, 2008 10:03 PM

Q: Can lubricant hurt my chances of getting pregnant? Is any kind okay to use?

A:
Yes and yes. Even on its own, vaginal secretion is an acidic sperm killer that repels healthy sperm before it can enter the cervix. Store-bought lubricant only slows the sperm further, leaving it more likely to die within the vagina, before reaching the egg.

Need an alternative? Try Pre~Seed, a new lubricant that's advertised as "fertility friendly," and doesn't seem to harm sperm. Or, try a home remedy. Some couples find water or even egg whites works as a non-toxic lubricant. There's also the old-fashioned option -- save your money, step up the foreplay and let nature do the rest.

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

DH and I tried just going w/ natural vaginal secretions several times (it doesn't take much to get me really excited) :) and every single time had BFN....I found out about Pre-seed...found out everything I could about it from their site, ordered it and had BFP the first time ever using it (sadly, we lost the baby) but we plan to use it EVERY TIME we are trying to conceive from here on out!!!  I would swear by Pre-Seed!

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

DH means Dear Husband or Dear Hubbie.  I know how confusing it is, I had so much trouble understanding all the lingo until I checked this page out http://www.twoweekwait.com/web/stories.php?category=25

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

So we've been trying to conceive for 4 cycles and we've been using KY.  Could that possibly be my problem???

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

Yes, they say KY may kill some sperm.  The only lubs I heard that work are Pre-Seed b/c the acidity is more natural and sperm can live in it.  There's also prescription meds that can be given to increase CM and over the counter remedies such as Mucinex, Robitussin, green tea.

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

I read somewhere that most lubricants contain spermicide. Is this true? Is there a list on the web which list which ones dont?

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

well..we use KY pretty much every time we have sex, now I think I know why I haven't gotten pregnant in the year since we started trying.

I recently started thinking that maybe the lubricant could be the problem.... now I have my answer.

i'm ordering some preseed.  thanks!

Try Pre-Conceive Plus!  You can buy it at Wal-Mart, CVS, Rite Aid and it is also a conception friendly lubricant!  Check out their site www.preconceiveplus.com.

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

We've been using Pre-Seed. I think it helps with vaginal dryness. We did get pg once, but lost it thru a ectopic pg.

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

We tried for two months with no luck. Then I read the answers to this question and on the 3rd month we didn't use any lube or saliva and we got a BFP! The preseed site is really helful even if you don't use it. http://preseed.com/TheProblem/Vaginal_Dryness.php

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

I went on the pre-seed website and there are so many to chose from.  Can anyone tell me which product is the best to use for lube?

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

thanks for all the info. we've been TTC for 2 months with BFN. i know it didn't have anything with lube. but it's nice to know there is a lube that will help rather than harm the process. going to try it out this month.

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

This may be TMI, but when we first got married we had to use KY, but after a few months we finally got to where it wasn't necessary, and at that point I was shocked about how much less semen seemed to seep out after intercourse. When we were using KY it seemed that nothing stayed inside, but going the natural route really seemed a lot less "messy." We have never used birth control of any type and couldn't figure out why we hadn't gotten pregnant after 5 months of marriage. We've only been going at it without KY for 2 months, but I think our chances are much higher now.

If you are TTC and using lube, try to go without it. Relax, take your time, and you'll get there without it. And if not, it sounds like pre-seed may be your answer.

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

My husband and I started using Pre-Seed because we had heard that it was very gentle and good for people who are really sensitive (like me) a few months ago, and then bam! I am now seven weeks pregnant! I have been off the pill since April/May of 08, so we didn't change methods, if you know what I mean, just lube! Pre-Seed works!

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

I've recently discovered that a little coconut oil goes a  long way in the bedroom and is a lube that works great for me & DH.  But does anyone know if this has an adverse affect on sperm?  I don't want to kill the poor little guys! I'm not too keen on chemical lubes, like to keep as natural as we can.

re: Q: Sexual lube and TTC?

I've never had a problem with dryness, but don't have much CM at the time of ovulation, so I just ordered some Preseed.  Will try it next cycle and hoping for a BFP!  We've been trying for 4 mths and nothing.  So keeping fingers crossed that Preseed works for us.
