I know there are a few pro photogs on here...

I was just curious if you could recommend a lens for low light shooting (primarily indoors). I take lots of pics of my dog and cat, since they are the only kids we have, but I STRUGGLE with the light. I currently use a 50mm 1.8 but I am thinking maybe something else might be better? Maybe something with more of a zoom but still a large aperture?

I have a Nikon D300 and it is just for personal use. I would really appreciate your advise. TIA

I don't think a lens will fix your light issue if you're shooting wide open with a f/1.8. You can only get another lens that will open up to f/1.4 or 1.2 from there and that won't give you THAT much more light. It wouldn't be worth the cost IMO, cause those lenses are quite spendy.

Consider going outside, getting near a window, or upping your ISO (just know there you introduce more noise, and the D300 is pretty  noisy above iso 800).

I had a feeling that would be the case. I'll just have to buy more lights! Thanks!

Ditto what Lori said. Best bet is bringing more light in. Good luck!

I agree...more light and up your ISO. Although I love my 50 1.4 lens I find that I really LOVE using  the 24-70 inside too. Kind of pricey though. Good luck!
