Need Nap Help!!

My LO is 7 months old and has always been a great napper as far as falling asleep. He sleeps on his belly (for naps only), so I would just lay him down, pat his back and he'd be out in 5 min or so. In the last two weeks he just fights me to roll onto his back. If I leave him on his back he just cries and will not fall asleep. I'll try rolling him back onto his belly and again he fights me. I've tried darkening his room, feeding him before his nap, lengthening awake time and nothing has worked. He is obviously tired because the second I pick him up he starts to fall asleep on me. So this week the only way he has taken naps is in his swing or in his car seat while I'm out running errands in an effort not to lose my mind. I don't want to create a habit of napping in his swing, but I don't know what else to do. He needs to nap.

I'm assuming it's just a phase because he is on the verge of becoming mobile and he's been hitting a lot of milestones lately. Did any of you go through this? How long did it last? Any suggestions? Thanks!

About 7/8 months old my LO went through a spell where she wouldn't sleep for long stretches at night anymore. She would be exhausted and sleep for like 2 or 3 hours and then be up screaming until my husband or I went in and got her. I guess I choked it up to a stint of seperation anxiety and just responded to her cries and cuddled her until she felt comfortable enough to go to sleep and she eventually outgrew it. I didn't give her any bottles in the middle of the night or change her routine. It lasted for two weeks tops..if that. I think she just needed the reassurance that mommy and daddy will always be there if she needed us. She is now back to sleeping 12-14 hours a night.
