Holmes is showing hostil jail behavior!

I'm so sick to my stomach to read this article. I really hope it doesn't get off on insanity. But, after read this article, it looks like this is where it's heading. What do yall think?

This is my theory on his defense:

His pill happy psychiatrist over prescribed him medications which resulted in his psychotic behavior. And his craziness in his first court appearance is due to the fact he was in jail all weekend and wasn't given his meds causing him to look/act the way he did. This doesn't explain the premeditation from May- July but I'm sure his defense will come up with something.I'm interested to see how much of the blame ends up on the psychiatrist.

(I know you didnt ask but I felt like typing it :) )

OR, the prison shrink gave him pills that may have interefered with his exisiting meds. If Holmes wasn't talking, it's likley that he didn't communicate his current meds.

OR he's a big faker.

I'm not really sure what to think, except that I don't want to judge either way until he undergoes a psych eval.

I'm more ammused by this info in the article:

Here's what the bill would require:

- Only licensed dealers would be allowed to sell ammunition.
- The dealers would have to notify law enforcement within five days about any sale of more than 1,000 rounds to an unlicensed person.
- The proposal would also require unlicensed dealers to show a photo ID to buy ammunition which means they would have to make the purchase in person.

Right - b/c the only way to obtain firearms and ammo is thru a licensed dealer.

Well I think that saying he is going "to get off" on an insanity plea is ridiculous. I don't really think life in a maximum security state run mental facility for criminals is any more cozy then life in prison. And I also think that you have to be insane to do what he did. No one in their right mind does something like that.

Possibly. I was under the assumptions that they didnt medicate him  (based on unnamed sources at the prison that were talking to the papers).

I'm probably going to get raked over the coals for this, but I really want to say it.

A teeny, tiny bit of me feels bad for him. I read that NYT bestseller about Columbine and it really gave me a different perspective on things. How we all thought these kids were bullied and whatnot, so they went nutso and did terrible things. But they really were super depressed (Kliebold) and suffering from serious mental illness (Harris).Of course that doesn't excuse anything they did, it just made me realize that it must be fuckings awful to live with a head like that. So yeah, the little part of me that feels bad for him is because of that. I've been hearing "experts" talking about people having psychotic breaks in their 20s. Let's say that's what is going on, this kid lives a "normal" life and is smart and all of that, and then just snaps. Can you imagine hearing voices? Not being able to distinguish between what is real and what is not? Of course I'm assuming that's what is going on with this guy but, still, it's really scary to think about.

But yeah, this kid is still responsible for what he did. I don't believe he was insane and not in control of his actions. He obviously planned to do what he did for awhile. And again, I think he should rot in jail for the rest of his life.

And I'm about to leave work, so this is a post and run. Sorry.

Exactly! I had a friend that said "as if the people that are out doing this crimes are law abiding citizes and will purchase guns/amo legally." The exception is of course with this case b/c he had no prior history.

When I said he was going to "get off" on insanity. I just meant that he wouldn't be treated as a normal person. I shouldn't judge period. But, my heart aches for those people that lost a loved one and especially for the lady that miscarried due to his actions. It's awful and I want him to pay the full price no matter what his mental state is!

I've heard this agrument before about other things and I disagree with it. An insane person doesn't know that what they are doing in wrong. I think he's just evil.

People "getting off" for insanity is mostly a myth. Insanity defense is only attempted in 1% of defenses (and some states don't even allow this defense) and of that 1%, it's only successful 25% of the time. Then, if the defense is successful, they're still committed to a mental institution, which doesn't have to let them out ever.

The more I read about him, the more his degeneration in behavior reminds me of a high school friend I have who was a paranoid schizophrenic.

This is going to be very interesting, indeed.  I just hope I don't get pulled for Jury Duty when it happens.
