freaking out

Hi ladies,

DD is only 8 months old and I just found out I'm pregnant again.  It was an oops, and I'm freaking out.  I just don't know how I'm going to deal with a 15-16 month old and a newborn.  I feel like I'm not going to have time to enjoy #1 with having to feed/change/comfort a newborn all day.  I feel like I haven't really had a whole lot of time with just DD and now we're already introducing a new one.

Advice?  How did you ladies get through it?

I delivered DS the day DD turned 16 months and all the feelings you are feeling are very normal.

You will find time with #1 with a new baby. Baby will be happily napping in the swing and you will be reading books, playing blocks or play doh with your first. The newborn phase is really hard (lack of sleep was horrible) but my first was so young and had no issues playing independently that it wasn't a problem at all! She hardly noticed him in the beginning and was very excited about the new toys I got her to play with (play kitchen!)

I learned to have everything you need on both floors. I had PnP down stairs, diapers for both kids, change of clothing for each kid downstairs. I learned to be very prepared cooking all her meals (and plate them) the night before because I always had a huge meltdown right when I was in the middle of bfing. All I had to do was throw it in the microwave.... I even had sippy cups poured and in the fridge because the last thing you want to do one-handed is pour a gallon of milk into a sippy cup!

Things get much easier quicker! Life was very manageable and still is when DS turned 6 months old and could play with toys sitting up or crawling.

DS was an accident (bfing, mini pil, no AF ever) but looking back if I had to do it over again I would have them close.

I found out I was pregnant with DD2 when DD1 was 12 weeks old. My girls are 11 months apart and I freaked out just like you are. Take a deep breath and keep in mind that newborns do a lot of sleeping during the day. You will be tired, but there will be time to spend with your daughter.

Best advice I can give is make a schedule and stick to it. Your children will respond well to a routine and it will make your life much easier. Rest as often as you can, but remember it is temporary! You will feel like a zombie for a little while, you will be overwhelmed some days, and you will need a break every once in a while, but when you get past those newborn "up all night" stages, and the kids can play together, you will love it. My girls are best friends and I couldn't be happier that I had them so close together. I love it so much, number 3 will be 2 years younger than number 2! lol

Try not to overthink it and work yourself up. You may get lucky and have a really easy newborn this time around. Your instincts will help you through the rough times. Congratulations! Go relax! lol

Oh, and ALL of this. Great advice.

Your feelings are totally normal. I hyperventilated on the kitchen floor when I found out I was pg with ds2. The big ones are 15 months apart and I felt extremely guilty all through out ds2's pregnancy. The first few months were hard I'm not going to lie but then it's been the amazing thing. My big ones are so close and love playing together. It's so much fun to watch them. And it must not have been to bad b/c I had ds3 who is 20 months apart from ds2. It's helped so much with ds3 being here that ds1 and ds2 are close together as well.
