Saying hello

Hi Everyone,

 I have just discovered this board. I thought I would introduce myself instead of lurking in the shadows.

I am due in Jan with our first child. A little girl. I am Australian, my husband is French. We live in France but I work in Luxembourg. I have a grand total of 8 working days left and I can't wait to go home and put my feet up.

I keep reading all of these posts about people who are working right up to their due date and I keep thinking how darn lucky I am to be living in Europe.

Hello! I am currently on my maternity leave in the UK (1 year). I stopped working at 37 weeks pregnant (after thinking that I would work up to my due date in my VERY active job - LOL). 

I am American living in England with my British DH and our 8 month old son. 

I also feel very lucky to have the maternity and healthcare benefits of living in Western Europe!

American here is who is loving the maternity leave in Denmark!  I stopped working at 37 weeks for my first child, and then took 8 months off wilth 5 months being full pay and 3 at a minimum wage amount.  I was begging to go back to work after 8 months!

Now I am pregnant with twins and stopped working at 24 weeks, and now am on disability which is still full pay.  They are due January 5th.  

The US and other countries could learn a lot about how to setup a better work/life balance like they have in Europe.

Hi, and welcome! Ecuadorian living in Belgium with Belgian husband and our LO. You guys are sooo lucky with the maternity leave, here we get 3 months, and if you decide to take a year it's unpaid. I wish I would live in Germany or somewhere up north where benefits are better, but I am sadly hooked on Belgian beer!!!

Hi and welcome! I'm an American living in England, and we are expecting our first child in May. Watching my BMB and hearing stories about ridiculous out of pocket costs for scans and 6-week maternity leave really makes me thankful to be living in the UK!

Hi and welcome! I'm an American living in Germany with my German DH, our DD, and soon to be second DD. I agree on the maternity leave and other benefits, although I can't take advantage of it since I'm a student and self-employed. :-/

Hi and welcome! DH and I are americans living in Scotland and expecting our first in December. I finished work on Friday and will have a year off (10.5 month full paid). Honestly, it was a struggle to keep working in an office job until 36 weeks so I have no idea how people work up until the end. I am also feeling very, very lucky to be living in the UK.

Hi! I'm American living in Italy. But I work for American companies so I worked right up until I gave birth. But as I WAH it was actually not that bad... but I also only "took" 6 weeks maternity leave. When I had DD back in 2009 I was working for an Italian company so my maternity leave was 1 month before birth and 4 months after. Then you get 2 hours per day to "rest" btu they are technically required you to pay you for FT only my company cut my salary to 6/8th :rolleyes: so I left and decided to WAH instead.
