Failed VBAC

I'm finally getting around to sharing my story, one day shy of being six weeks post partum.

Some history:  Primary OBGYN was on personal leave for three months and is in private practice.  I used a midwife/OBGYN group but used the midwives.  First pregnancy - induced at  39wks 6days, finally hit 10cm at 40wks, pushed 2 hours, failure to decend into birth canal, csection at 40wks 1 day (2am).  DS1 was 8lbs 9oz and 19 3/4inches.  I gained 25lbs.

This pregnancy I measured a 1-2 weeks ahead fundal height, no big deal.  I gained 20lbs this pregnancy.  My OB ordered a growth u/s at 38 weeks.  As of that day, they estimated baby at 9lbs 1oz.  I told the tech and my OB that I truly didn't feel like I was carrying a baby that big.  Also the tech noted that my amniotic fluid levels were in the normal range but on the high end of normal so that was likely why my fundal measurements were higher.

I had a csection scheduled as plan B, for the day after my due date (waited until last minute to schedule).  My OB doesn't induce for vbacs.  I was thankful to go into labor on my own at 39 weeks 6 days.  I had contractions for a few hours and could no longer talk through them.  I called and spoke with the on-call OB (the other OB that shares an office with my OB) and was told to head in.  Upon arrival I was at 4cm (completely closed at my 39 week appt).  Contractions got stronger, closer together, etc.  No progress for a few hours so I agreed to having my water broke.  I opted for an epi because I knew that if I needed a csection, I'd need one anyways and wanted to avoid general if something had to be done in a hurry.  First epi didn't take at all, second was spotting.  OB broke my water.  I hit 5cm and nothing for several hours.  After 12 hrs of labor, baby way high, no dilation since a few hours after arrival, I agreed to a csection.

DS2 arrived at 8lbs 2oz and 19inches.  The love of my life.  I am so glad I had the opportunity to try a vbac and emotionally okay with it resulting in a csection.

This recovery has been SO much better. My OB did my incision on top of my previous so only one scar for two kiddos.  :)

Congrats! I also had a failed VBAC but was happy to have the chance to try like you. I know I was scared to try and really scared that if I failed emotionally I would be a wreck so reading stories like yours would have helped me before delivering. Thanks for sharing!
