Bad dreams

Nate has woken up twice in the past week around 4am just wailing in his crib. It's not like him. He has finally started sleeping through the night in the last few (maybe three) months. But when he would wake up it was always just a little fussing. This is full on screaming. When I go into his room he is standing up in his crib (which he never does otherwise) and just looks terrified. I pick him up, rock him, and sing to him. He usually calms down but when I try to lay him back down he starts screaming again.

I think he is starting to have nightmares. He does have a nightlight in his room, but it's not very bright so I am thinking about putting another one in there. I just feel so bad for the little guy. He looks so scared. :(

What do toddlers have bad dreams about anyway? I can only assume for Nate that it's some alternate reality where they have completely run out of cheese....

Anyone else having problems? I know it isn't night terrors because he is totally awake when I go in there, so that's a good sign at least.

i don't now about bad dreams but... DS has been doing this for the past couple weeks. i think it's now to the point where he's now set his internal clock!!

we think he may be hungry. he eats dinner around 5 and then plays until around 7 and then sleeps until around 6 or 7. that's 14 hours without food!

we did start giving him a snack before bed which seemed to help. or we still give him a bottle and DH gives it to him around 4 which probably isn't helping but he'll at least go back to sleep for a couple hours.

good luck!

Chase does the same thing!  There are times when he wakes up and wants to nurse, but the times when he wakes up wailing, when I pick him up he will wrap his little arms around my neck and just cling to me.  Once time he wrapped his arms around me, laid his head on my shoulder, then leaned back, looked at me, laid his head back on my shoulder and sight "yeah."  It was like he had to reassure himself that I was still there.  Once he is calm, I'll put him back in his crib.  He will usually cry for about 30 seconds and then go back to sleep.  I think it's nightmares too.  A couple of times we brought him to bed with us, but that opened up a whole other can of worms.
