I fell down :(

Was walking out of a building and lost my footing on the bottom step and fell on my hands and knees in the parking lot.  Didn't hit my belly, but ripped the knees open in my new suit pants and skinned both my knees and hands :(  Do I need to call my MW to have LO checked on?  I was crying so hard after it happened, because I just had a frustrating appointment with the allergist about whether my MW can administer penicillin while I am in labor.I called DH and he told me to go home instead of going back to work which I had to anyways to wash up and change my clothes.  I feel guilty taking the rest of the day off and I am worried about LO :(

LO should be perfectly fine, especially if you didn't bump your bump!  If it will make you feel better, though, call your MW.

I would personally go home for the day - but I strongly considered calling in sick to go sleep at my parents house for a bit today after only getting 4 hours sleep last night.

You can certainly call your MW for peace of mind if you are at all concerned.  The fact that you didn't hit your belly is a very good thing.

FWIW, I slid down a few stairs and landed smack on my butt on Friday and all was fine.  I did call my MW but she said as long as I wasn't bleeding and hadn't hit my belly that I didn't need to come in :)

I learned something on TB when pregnant with DD about falling - the danger is rarely from actually falling onto your stomach. LO is pretty well cushioned in there. What's dangerous is the quick acceleration and stop at the end, as it can cause a placental abruption. I'm not saying that that's what happened to you, as in all likelihood everything's fine, but if you feel off at all, don't say to yourself, "But I didn't fall on my stomach, so I'm sure I'm fine."

With DD I fell so many times because we had a bad winter and our road wasn't salted (the country almost ran out of salt). I was also pulled over by our dog onto my stomach.

I'd take it easy for the rest of the day but you should be fine.

What Kelly321 said - although I am sure you are fine if you have no other problems.

I wanted to add: don't let an orthopedic-type injury go untreated while you're pregnant. A simple knee sprain is a lot harder to deal with when you can't (or would rather not) take naproxen / get x-rays / try cortisone shots. So really, really don't be shy about getting swollen joints or other minor injuries treated early, when the safer, more conservative treatments are most efficacious.

Thanks ladies, there is no cramping or bleeding and LO is still moving around in there.  I will stay off my feet for the afternoon.

I'm glad you're feeling better :)  You shouldn't feel bad for taking the rest of the day off. I probably would have, too!

You can always call your doc and speak to a nurse, tell them what happened and let them decide.  I fell at 19 weeks and that is what I did.  I did not end up having to go in, but felt better that I had talked to them instead of just assuming.

Expecting our second baby on February 7, 2013. Trusting Him whatever comes our way.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011 at 20 weeks. She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.
