Sporatygirl26:My OB told me at my 24 week apt. I can start now if I want but by 28 weeks he wants me to start. I have to count and they would like to see 10 counts in an hour BUT if it doesn't happen within that hour then drink water or juice and go for no more than 2 hours. The doctors says that if the baby doesn't move 10 timse in 2 hours to call.
This - I was told to do so at 28 weeks and it can be done any time of the day - when baby is most active. Count 10 kicks in one hour.

drewiekc:My doc never had me do kick counts last time.
This. I had asked about it but my doctor said they don't ask patients to do kick counts. She said it would only drive people crazy.
They all say something different it seems. My midwife says 10 movements every 12 hours, and hiccups count.
But I think when they do ask you to start counting, it's not until 3rd trimester.
My doctor said not to worry about specific kick counts unless I was worried. For the most part if you feel your baby moving regularly through out the day you are good to go.
If you are like me you won't have to worry because the baby won't STOP moving! I'm also 26 weeks and he started going nuts the last couple days.
