"last meal" before my glucose test

Any advice? My appointment is at 9 tomorrow morning and I can't eat for 8 hrs prior. I'm a little worried because I can be hypo (hyper?) glycemic when I don't eat. But I have only gotten like that twice this pregnancy and it never really seems to have to do with what I ate before hand, just that I didn't eat for a while. Anyway, I've read several times that false positives are common with this test, so I just want to make sure that if I do fail and have to become the Grinch of holiday treats, it's for real. TIA!!

I thought that perhaps the two pieces of chocolate mud pie ice cream cake could have been the reason for my positive result at 9 AM the next day but the doctor assured me that there was no way that could have been the reason. She said that whatever I ate the night before would have already been out of my system by then.  So...unfortunately, I have to go for the three hour test this week.

My doctor told me I could eat a normal breakfast about an hour before as long I didn't eat anything too sugary like a donut. I had a small bowl of cereal with raspberries...still waiting on my results.

I have some crazy meal plan for two days prior and 12 hrs of fasting beforehand! I agree, I'm going to faint. I would eat something high in protein if I were you.

For dinner the night before my test, I made a burrito with quinoa, black beans, salsa, a little bit of cheese and some avocado on a low-carb tortilla.  It was filling and high in protein.  I fasted after that until my test at 8:00 the next morning.  I still went majorly hypoglycemic at the end of the test, but that may have had more to do with the fact that it took them an extra half hour to draw my blood, so I didn't actually get food until about 10:15 or 10:30 that day.  I passed, though!

thats interesting. The 1 hour is not supposed to be a fasting test. its amazing how each dr. is so different. My test was at 4 in the afternoon, so for breakfast i had 2 hardboiled eggs and 1 slice of toast with PB. i think I had an apple with string cheese for a snack and then for lunch just had a salad. I dont think I ate from 1pm on just bc the timing of work/the test.  I would say do something very high protein/low carb...like a turkey burger, broccoli and quinoa or brown rice or something.

I passed and I ate a half of a chocolate chunk muffin and a glass of orange juice before I went.  My BFF eats egg whites and whole grains and she failed.  I think its luck of the draw.

I ate pumpkin pancakes and drank a glass of grapefruit juice right before I went and passed.  I would have passed out during the blood draw if it would have been a fasting test.  My MW actually didn't tell me to eat or not, I just assumed I could.  The lady who gave me the test asked me if I ate before I came.

I was told nothing to sugary or carbs. Carbs turn into sugar.

But then I got it done at work because lab work is free so I had to be npo

i failed the 1 hour with a 148 (my dr uses 130 as a cut off)...then i passed "with flying colors" the 3 hour. I didnt ask what the numbers were. everyone's body reacts differently so I would just stick to higher protein/lower carbs and see how it goes.

I didn't have to fast for mine.  It was at 10:30 and I had Kashi Go Lean Crisp for breakfast at around 7:30 or 8.  All docs give different info on this it seems.  I would say have some cheese and crackers or some other protein 8 hours before, maybe even if you have to wake up to do it if you are worried you will have a problem.

Expecting our second baby on February 7, 2013. Trusting Him whatever comes our way.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011 at 20 weeks. She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.
