1:20 chance of LO's sex being wrong... when's the best time for a 4d scan?

I'm aware that guesses of the sex are just that, guesses, and that they can be wrong (my little cousin was expected to be a girl until he was delivered). However I had my routine OB appointment yesterday, and my OB said that while the ultrasound technician he uses normally gives a 99% assurance at guessing the sex, in my case she had written they were 95% sure, and commented that they must not of been able to get a good shot. I confirmed that the ultrasound technician didn't get a potty shot during the scan, but rather said the genital area "looked flat", and that was all she could see from the position, so she was 95% sure. My OB pointed out that this still left a 1 in 20 chance of LO being a boy, and not a girl.

I think normally I would be fine with this figure, however I wasn't confident when the technician gave her guess, due to the way she said it. So now I'm thinking of getting an elective 4d scan. Does anyone know when the best time is to get them? I've been googling and read that they can be done from 24 - 35 weeks, but that the baby can look a bit squashed if it's left too late, and can look a little alien like if done too early.

Many of the 4D ultrasound places also offer traditional 2D ultrasounds, and usually for a lot cheaper.

If you simply want to know the sex of the baby, that should be easy enough to see now.  Most elective ultrasound places will offer a free do-over if they aren't able to visualize the genitals on the first visit.

Thanks so much for your reply. I sent an email to the place I had scan, as I was going to complain about the DVD they supplied me with (it had no audio so I have no idea what I'm looking at), and they have offered to redo the scan so that I have a fully functioning DVD. Now to keep my fingers crossed that they still say girl, as I've bought lots of dresses lol!
