9 yr old boy gift ideas?

thinking of legos...would a set ages 5-12 be too young for a 9 yr. old? Seems like a big age range.

No -- I think you're safe with any lego set in that age range.  When my son was 5 or 6, he loved Lego Star Wars stuff because he was really into Star Wars.  But he was really too young to build a 500-piece model.  We really needed to do it together if he was workign on anything complicated like a space ship or a vehicle.  Now, at 8 he is less "obsessed" with Star Wars, but still likes it and he still likes lego sets.  My guy also likes to just build   Now he needs less help on a complicated lego set.  A 12 year old could do the same set independently.

My kids also like the lego games and plain bricks to build whatever they want.
