I only download free ones for DD and they aren't necessarily educational.  Her favs: Preschool cannonball monkey, Cookies & Milk, Kids Jigsaw puzzles, VeggieTales Spotisode, and Connect the Dots.

Some of these cost a few bucks, but DD enjoys them. Ebooks: Jog Frog Jog, Vampire Hunter, The Bremen Town Musicians, The Three Little Pigs, Dr Suess ABCs, Green Eggs and Ham, and the app "My First Books" and iStoryBooks which have several; Five Little Monkeys, still likes Sound Touch which is a little babyish, Starfall All About Me, and of course Angry Birds.

Monkey preschool lunchbox is his favorite. It's a great app actually but once you solve all the puzzles, etc it gets a bit old. He seems to like it still though. I have tried a few duds but still looking.

My Play Home, Pepi Bath (there's a free light version), the Dr. Panda apps (there are free versions of some of these), Where's My Water, all the angry birds, my first tangrams. Is this an old Fire that's just hers/that doesn't utilize the Prime lending library? I'd strongly consider rooting it, if that applies- there are some very stable options out there for the older device that should speed it up a lot and let you utilize Google Play apps that Amazon doesn't make available to you. My son started using a superNES emulator on one of our android tablets around 4- really fun, but, I doubt you'd find one in Amazon's store. ;)

I seriously have no idea what you are talking about here. ..

Its a Kindle Fire that I got almost exactly a year ago.

I don't have Prime.

The Fire comes with a heavily modified Android operating system (in the case of Fire first gen, it's Gingerbread 2.3). The modifications tie you to the kindle interface- you can't change the display, for instance. The BIG one for a lot of people- is that you can't install Google Play (the Google app store) or any of Google's other apps (like Google Maps) on the device.

There are software utilities that make it a very easy process- it's been done a lot, especially now that it's an end-of-life product that's no longer supported by Amazon. :)

Here's a pretty gentle reading instruction set- it probably sounds scary if you're not the most techie person around, but, it's really straightforward. :)

Again, it's just an idea I thought I'd throw out there- no big deal if you just want to stick with the Fire as it is. I have an old Fire that I've left alone because I do have Prime and use the lending library- but, we have 8 billion other devices here, so that's literally it's only purpose in life.

Heheh. Seriously, though, get the Play Home one- it's $3, I think, but, it's really cute! Sort of a digital doll house. I wish they'd do more apps- they really did very well on that one!
