Swelling After C-section

I had my c-section Monday 12/10/12 and was wondering how much swelling is normal? When I had DS #1 I was really swollen prior to surgery but it went away almost immediately after. This time I had no swelling before and feel huge now. Ankles and calves are pretty swollen but the tops of my feet are swollen to the point of being somewhat painful. I have been pushing fluids, walking as much as I can, and elevating my feet as much as I can. How much swelling were you told is normal? I talked to my ob's office yesterday and they said it was most likely normal, which I understand, but at what point should I be concerned?

It's normal. I had almost no swelling prior to my cd but after, man oh man. I couldn't bend my toes. The bump on the outside of my ankle wa gone. My knees were gone. It lasted 812 ish days I'd say? It was definitely gone by 2 weeks pp because that's when I could get jeans back on.

It's normal. I've had 3 c-sections and had swelling like this with each one. Mine usually lasted 2-3 weeks but when it went away it happend pretty much overnight. It sounds like you are doing everything you can to make it go away sooner.

Yup, I was told it was normal too.  I had bad swelling before and even worse after :-\ It was so bad that my thighs ran right into my feet (Thankles if you will!)  It was pretty painful, as in if my skin were to stretch anymore I thought it was going to rip!!  I couldn't bed down either to get the lotion on so my mom or DH had to do that for me :( I was so unbelievably embarrassed by it.  My DH kept asking the nurses to make sure it was normal, because they were all shocked with how swollen I was. He finally said to them "Just tell me you have seen worse!" And thankfully they said yes, but I can't imagine it being much worse than mine!!

I just remembered that when they took the pressure booties off my legs, I had indents from where the booties hugged my shins/calves, that's how swollen!!

Same here. For me, the swelling was the worst part of my recovery. It hurt to stand and I couldn't even bend enough to dress myself. It came off over the course of a day or two about two weeks postpartum. I am dreading it this time.

Like PP said it's totally normal.  They pump you full of so much fluid during labor, prior to CS and after that your body tends to retain it.  Mine went away overnight about 2-3 weeks pp.

I am 8 days post c section, and did have some minor swelling for the first 24 hours. But for a few days now my calves have been REALLY sore. Especially at night. I try to walk as much as possible and message them, but it's not going away... Blood clots maybe? I'm giving it a little while longer before I call my doc.
