what are you feeding your baby?

this is for those of us who are heading into 8 mos old!

curious, what are you feeding LO? i saw this thread on another forum, and someone said "chicken nuggets, pizza, ramen noodles, mac 'n' cheese..". am i the only one who thinks that's a little unhealthy for such a little baby? or am i being uptight....

this is what i feed LO:

nurse all throughout the day

homemade puree at dinnertime with us- yams, spinach, broccoli, ground beef, quinoa, applesauce, bananas, avocado. i like to add melty coconut oil to the purees so she gets some extra fat.

also just started feeding her soft cooked sweet potato, and let her paw at it as a messy finger-food.

anyone else want to share? i'm curious!!

ps- we found juniper STANDING UP at the typewriter last night! she's all grown up now!

typing letters to santa!

mine is eating more like yours. pureed fruits, veggies, oatmeal, rice, and meats.

I do feel bad sometimes when i sit there and eat pizza and then make him eat something like green beans. but he loves it! (and doesn't know any better, ha)

Whatever we eat, usually some kind of sauced chicken with sides or chili, pasta, meatballs, soup, casseroles, meatloaf, etc etc. We always have a veggie and maybe rice or sweet potato.

Brunch is usually an egg, cheese, toast with hummus, a fruit, maybe leftover veggies. Occasionally we have pancakes. Those are his 2 main meals - brunch after morning nap and then dinner. He also normally has a snack after his 2nd nap.

Breakfast - cheerios, shredded wheat, cereal bar, cream of wheat (once it's thick and jello-like from cooling down) or eggs.

Lunch - cut up fingers of either an apple or pear, depending on what's on sale. Sometimes it's left over ham or chicken from dinner the night before. Maybe some yogurt melts to play with if he's still interested.

Dinner - whatever we're eating. Sometimes that means pizza. Sometimes it's fried chicken after we remove the skin and breading. The chicken nuggets he gets are homemade with whole wheat bread crumbs and are delicious! Usually it's a lean meat cut into fingers with a carb or startch that's either noodles or some form of potato and a veggie.

He gets whatever he can put into his mouth. We have done yogurt on a spoon, but we pre-load the spoon for him to put in his mouth. Even that, though, he likes to try to cup into his own mouth.

We're pretty solidly in purees, so he's getting oatmeal, fruit, veggies and meats (and the few carbs that are in there too).

DS so far has shown little interest in chewing--we tried giving him some mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving and he choked a bit.

I also don't want to do "grown-up" foods yet because of the salt/fat content. I'm working on reducing it, but right now I just don't want him to get all those preservatives and such.

I hope by this you mean your own cooking. I make almost everything from scratch and actually follow a low sodium diet since doing BLW with DD.

Yes. I do a lot from scratch, but still have sauces and things that have more salt than I think he needs. And again, he shows little interest in chewing--just sucking on stuff.

We don't give him ALL of that at each meal, but he is getting 3 meals and sometimes a snack. The serving size either fits in a baby bowl or baby plate, so not a ton of food, but enough that forgives the amount he drops on the floor. He's 9 months and EBF. Some days, he eats a TON of it. Some days, he uses one piece to push around all of the other pieces like an older boy might use a matchbox car to run over things on his tray all while buzzing his lips and making lazer sounds. I let him take the lead, and never force him to eat.

About the mom feeding her kid ramen noodles and such...IDK if that's even a good idea for adults too eat, way too much sodium.

Julian gets purees. Carrots, Sweet potatoes, green beans, apple sauce, bananas, berries, apricots, chicken, beef, broccoli, spaghetti...and his favorite Pears! Avacado was a no go with him, he really hated it, hated peaches and oatmeal too. Since I buy jars, DH's mom makes him food because she just can't stand the thought of him getting cancer from jarred food.....I know I know... He eats the yogurt melts and I give him bread with jam which he loves and baked apples are soft play food for him to mess with....although I totally slack on solids...

We buy fruit and veggie purees purely for convenience and because we ourselves do not eat a lot of them. Recently, we have been making food that E can feed herself because she has been on a spoon feeding strike. It gets messy, but at least she's eating lol. I've been meaning to make more purees, but I feel like she'd rather have "real" food.

He gets 3-4oz bottles during the day while I'm at work, then nurses a minimum of 4 times when I'm home. He still eats every 3 hours almost like clock work (2.5 at night now). He is a little guy though, so I think he's trying to catch up.

My family is from Pittsburgh, the Carnegie area, but I grew up just north of Pittsburgh and moved to Ohio after college. I still visit family often though!
