Take 6 month son to doctor appointment with me?

Hi ladies. Do any of you take your babies or children with you to appointments? I stay at home with DS who is 6 months and I have an eye doctor exam. Would you ladies take your babies? I was thing I could wear him in my beco where he is very content or put him in the stroller. What do you all do in these situations when you can't get a sitter??? TIA

I take my children to doctor's appointments, yes. I would not do an eye exam though (though I have the option to leave my kids with my parents). I think an eye exam would be difficult with a young child--they put those eye drops in to test your eyes and you can't see well for a few minutes, you have to sit in the chair while they test your prescription, etc. If you have no other choice I'm sure they will be accomodating but if you have a sitter option I would definitely use it.

I take my DS with me to doctors appts, but that's becuse we've moved recently and don't have a sitter. It went well last time until I had to have bloodwork drawn. One nurse held DS who is having super stranger anxiety issues and cried his eyes out reaching for me while another nurse hurriedly drew my blood. It was kind of scary and won't be happening again. Lol

If bloodwork is not part of a doc visit, I'll bring DS. Not sure about an eye exam, but with a very little LO, I'd think he'd be fine in the carrier.

I have taken DS to my eye exam, no problem. The only place I won't take him is the dentist. He sat on my knee when I had blood taken last week, and it was not an issue.

Especially since your son is immobile, it would not cross my mind to worry about taking him.

I just took my 5 month old to several visits surrounding Lasik. He went to the consultation, pre-op, and post-op with me. I wore him there (took the bus) and held him during all but one test at the consultation. He was just too wiggly and I couldn't stay still enough, so the nurses happily held him. My husband met me there to watch him during my pre-op, but the nurses would have been happy to hold him again. It was just the two of us again at the post-op, and it was fine. I just had to move him to the side of the chair (he sat on the arm while I held him) so I could get close enough to see through the test lenses. The nurses still wanted to hold him afterwards, as they've gotten to know him now, and we stayed after I was done for a little bit while several of the ladies held him again. I'll take him with me to the next follow up in a few days.

Theres no reason why you can't but I wouldn't. Dr appointments are for you. You should be able to concentrate on just you for 1/2 hr.

I have, but when she was older and could entertain herself with my phone (1.5yrs).  The eye doc wasn't super pleased, but she was well behaved, and I think it was just a "well, I don't take MY kids out like this, and *I* get a babysitter".  I've definitely taken her to regular GP appointments, but my GP sees our whole family.  And she often comes with me to the chiropractor, and they love seeing her there and are generally a very family friendly office!  But it really depends on your kids!

I always took my kids with me to the eye doctor and dentist, regardless of their age until they were school age.  I either kept them in the carseat bucket or used a stroller.  Doctor's offices are generally pretty cool with helping you find a place to "park" the baby and stroller while you're in the examining room.

I took them with me to the gyno while they were babies, then got a sitter as they were old enough to know what was going on.  Ditto with normal doctor's appointments, depending on the reason for the visit.

Sometimes you just can't hold/wear the baby because it's disruptive to the appointment or potentially unsafe.  Then you have to use a stroller.  If your child is not used to the stroller and you think that it will disrupt the appointment, get a sitter.  Most doctor's offices will work with parents on this type of thing, though -- it's a customer service thing.

I took DD to the eye doctor when she was 6 months and actually nursed her during the exam (doc was female). I always take her with me to my GYn appointments too as I would have a hard time finding a babysitter since all of my friends pretty much work. My last GYN appointment she sat on the chair next to me and idid explain other that mommy was having her vagina checked. She was fine with that and wasn't scared. If it gets to the point where it becomes a major pain or she can't behave I am sure I could find someone to watch her but so far that hasn't been necessary.
