Finally done with the financial chapter of the NICU

Last Friday we paid off DS' NICU bill. We are done. After hours on the phone, arguing with people who promised to help, getting denied, & a lot of other fun stuff, it's finished. I am thrilled.

Only bump in the road when I called was that they were "missing" a payment we made in November but they reassured me it will be applied to the account. I'm not too worried about it because I have the proof so we'll see. 

I'm also glad we got it paid off before the year ended. Hopefully, it will be enough to to claim on taxes next year.

Yay for paying it off!  That's awesome!

Total up the amounts on your statements!  IIRC from doing my taxes last year, this year it will have to exceed about 10% of your income to be able to claim it.  I was pissed that we couldn't claim it last year because we were a couple hundred dollars short.  Hopefully you'll be able to claim it!

I can't remember right now but can you claim ALL your medical expenses? Such as copays for LOs appt?

If not, do you know if we could also add my L&D balance as well to the medical expenses we've paid? I paid that off with our tax refund this year.

Congrats on closing that chapter!

We were told you once your medical bills reach 7 percent of your gross income you can start claiming all expenses. We are writing off mileage to and from NICU and drs appts, copays, any pharmacy stuff including OTC. We put in a generator ,since he has an O2 concentrator, and we are able to claim that.

 That is really good to know.  I was wondering about this too.  

On a side note, we need to put in a generator too since DS has an O2 concentrator as well.  We'd really be up a creek if the power went out for days on end.  

 Also, to the OP - congrats!  It must feel good to finally have the financial stuff taken care of.

Thanks! It's been a pain the rear (especially after nearly 16 months!) I'm glad to not have to think about it anymore.
