Prepping for TTC

Hello, Looking for some help. I'm new here and my hubby and I have decided that we want to have a baby and want to start TTC in Sept 2013. I know that sounds far off but time moves fast. I have started to read different articles about prepping to TTC and came across several about short term disability Insurance for maternity leave. My question was does anyone know where I can purchase a policy? My work does not offer it, so I was looking for an indiviual policy. Any help would be great! Thanks.

Google is the best answer I have.  When you do apply check their policy carefully.  Some of them have rules that won't allow you to use short term for a year.  If you plan to TTC in 2013 you may want to start a policy soon.

Aflak offers one that pays you 60% of your salary, up to so many weeks.  Their waiting period is 10 months.

Keep in mind though, that the premium you pay each month for it, might equate out to the amount you receive over maternity leave. We wanted to sign up for it, but realized the amount we would pay into it would actually equal the same amount they give us for 8 weeks maternity pay.  So we opted to just put that amount into a separate savings account every month.

I have long-term disability for my job (self-employed).  When I asked my insurance agent about trying to get short-term, she told me there really aren't any good options for those who are self-employed (premiums too high, or maternity exclusion). She recommends most of her clients to just save/self-fund their maternity leave.

I met with an Aflac rep just a few weeks ago who was trying to sell me various plans. She told me that you need 4 people for a group plan, but it can be any 4. I decided against it due to rates/payout.

I am considering the hospital plan/sickness that might be worthwhile.

Good luck!
