Sewing machines can't serge. They can do an overlock stitch with an overlock foot (they usually come with the machine). There are specialty feet that will cut as you sew, but, they're not very good on all fabrics. And obviously, a sewing machine only has two threads- so, it can't do anything close to a 3 or 4 thread serge stitch.
