Is this tacky?

MH and I are trying to decide what to get the day care teachers for a holiday gift.  MH wants to give them cash, as he think they probably don't get paid all that well, and cash is always appreciated.  I have always thought giving cash was a little tacky, and prefer to give gifts that show I have really considered what to get you.  E has only been there for 6 weeks, so we really don't know them personally all that well.  But E loves them, so we want to show our appreciation.  WDYT?

I feel like if it were your personal nanny then a cash bonus would be appropriate.  However, they may not be allowed to accept cash gifts.  Just something to consider.  I would get them a gift card to somewhere like Target so they can spend it on something they "need" or want.

I think that a target gift card or a visa gift card would be fine. I used to work in a school and was not allowed to accept gifts more than $25 but I always had a client that would give me a $50 gift card and a nice basket. I never turned it down and it was also appreciated.
Diagnosed MFI- low sperm count DH given 25 mg Clomid daily to increase count DS-Born 7/27/11 So after 2 years of IF we have our little man TTC#2 Jan 2012- Benched due to cyst March- 50mg Clomid + IUI= BFN April- 50mg Clomid- Missed O May- 50mg Clomid + IUI=???

I think also think a gift card to somewhere like Target where they could get many different types of things would be a good idea (clothes, groceries, gifts,etc.) Or a VISA gift card so they really could spend it anywhere.

I agree with the others - a Target or Visa gift card seem like a good way to give money without giving cash.

As a teacher I think it would be awkward. Gift cards are great though! Especially if you find out where they really like to shop or get coffee.

Unexplained Infertility
After two Clomid cycles, three injectable IUI cycles, two IVFs, two miscarriages, and one lap surgery, IVF #2 has brought us our little boy!

3/12 - CD3 labs show elevated estrogen levels. FET cycle on hold until cycles can be regulated.
5/12 - CD3 labs finally show normal estrogen, slightly elevated FSH. Currently on BCP and Lupron for FET #1. Transfer scheduled for June!
6/12 - FET #1 - Cancelled due to sucky lining
7/12 - FET #1.2 - Cancelled again
8/12 - Forced Break
9/12 - Natural FET #1.3 - BFP! Beta #1 (15dp3dt) - 1663 Beta #2 (17dp3dt) - 3500 - First u/s at 6 weeks showed twins! Please stick, little ones! U/S at 19 weeks shows it's two girls!!!

I like the gift card idea, although I am never opposed to a cash gift myself!
TTC on our own for many years finally moved on to IF treatment,diagnosis for me, ovaries with PCO appearance, hypothyroidism, DH MFI, IUI 1-3 BFN moved on to IVF, IVF #1 BFP! No frosties :( B/G twins born 10/12/11. IVF #2 August 2012, BFP ended in cp :( FET November, BFFN. IVF #3 at CC.RM Antagonist low stim protocol with CCS testing, ER 4/23/13, 21R, 18M, 14F. 8 day 5 & 2 day 6 blasts biopsied & frozen. CCS results 4 normals 5AA, 5AB, 5AB, 5BB, 2 no result 5BB, 4BB. FET scheduled 6/17/13 provided TSH & lining in check :) Lilypie Second Birthday tickers

While I'm sure they'd appreciate cash, I think cash at holiday time is usually reserved for people you're supposed to "tip" (I live in NYC so this is everyone - doorman, garage attendant, cleaning lady, super, nanny, etc.).  I think a day care teacher is someone you'd be better off giving a gift to like the others suggested.  A Visa gift card is as good as cash but it's still a "gift".
TTC in 2008. Stage II/III endo, Hashimotos hypothyroid, low morph (3%).
2 cycles Clomid/Ovidrel/TI/Crinone=BFN.
IUI #1 - 4 Follistim/Ovidrel/IUI/Crinone = BFN.
IVF #1 - Antagonist w/ ICSI 4/10. 17 retrieved, 5DT of 2, BFN :(
IVF #2 - Long Lupron w/ ICSI 6/10. 15 retrieved, 3DT of 2, BFFN!!
Lap 7/21/10
IVF #3 - Clomid/Antagonist w/ ICSI 10/10. 14 retreived, 3DT of 3, BFP 10/20 but m/c. No HB 11/15/10 - D&C 11/17/10.
FET - 2 blasts, 1 survived the thaw. Transfer 2/19. Beta #1 3/1 375, Beta #2 3/3 885, Beta #3 3/8 4261, Beta #4 3/11 9005. U/S 3/8 1 sac 1 yolk, U/S 3/16 1 heartbeat 114bpm!.

Have LO make a little something (I just did an easy art project with my kids to throw in with our gifts to the grandparents - I painted their feet and made their prints look like Christmas trees with lights and a star on top of each one).  Throw in a gift card for some major chain store or restaurant along with it.

In my former life I  taught elementary school and while I know it's not the same as a daycare, I would have totally felt weird getting cash from a parent.  Homemade gifts were always my favorite ;)

Thanks everyone.  I thought cash was not quite the best option, and I think your responses have talked my husband into agreeing with me.  I also really like the idea of a little craft with it - a hand print card or something.  Cute idea!  Thanks again.
