DD is currently on a combination baby-led/parent-led schedule. I had to work with her at 8.5 months to stretch feedings from every 2 hours still to every 3 hours. I usually have to wait and read signs that she's ready for a feeding or sleeping transition, but then stretch her. Otherwise she'll continue to show hunger and/or sleepy cues at her old times as long as I'll let her. Currently we do:
7-ish: WU, nurse, solids (used to be about 4 oz. fruit + yogurt, but she's been refusing it and mostly eating Cheerios) 45 minutes later
9:45-ish: nurse
10-ish: nap #1
11:15-ish: wake
12:45-ish: nurse, solids 45 mintues later (used to be about 2 oz. veggies, but again I'm getting puree refusal so now trying to move to more table foods)
2:30-ish: nap #2
3:30-ish: wake, nurse
5:30-ish: dinner of solids (we want her to eat with us)
6:45-ish: nurse
7:00-ish: bedtime
If she has a poor eating day due to distractable nursing or solids refusal she may wake to eat at night, although it's hard to tell if she needs it because she will always take a full feed even if not hungry and her "I'm awake and protesting" and "I'm hungry" cries are very similar.
I've polled friends and most were nursing 4x/day by the 9-10 month range.
