Weight Loss

Last year while I was SAH I did Weight Watchers for two months and lost about 10 lbs.  Since then, I have kept off the weight but dropped the weight watchers.  Since returning to work, I can't seem to get in a routine that allows me to exercise and have time for food prep.  I'm a teacher, so my lunch breaks are spent either helping students, grading papers, eating or running to the bathroom.  No time for a work out there.  I get up at five and leave the house by six.  LO and I get home from daycare at four and thanks to daylight savings time, its starting to get dark soon after.

I feel like a horrible mommy but I am thinking about picking her up from daycare and taking her to the gym (for more daycare) so that I can work out.  Going after dinner wasn't really working because I am prone to falling asleep so quickly.  I keep starting C25k and I have found that I actually like running, its just too cold/ too dark before or after work to take LO with me.

I would love to get your recommendations for a diet of some sort.  I am going to try to look into Jenny Craig, and Medifast today.  Has anyone used either program before?

I have about 60 lbs to lose total, but I would love to lose 30-40 before summer so that I am healthier when we start TTC #2.

Honestly I do a TON of food prep on Sundays!! I like SkinnyTaste.com, she has tons of good (usually Weight Watcher Point) healthy meals on there. I will do a few large dishes and put them in tupperware to take with me. Maybe you could do the gym a few nights a week (that way it will keep LO's time in DC less) and do a workout at home the other nights? I don't know if it is feasible, but maybe look into getting a treadmill for the house? We found ours on Craigslist for like $100 (super nice and would have been $1000 new). Any way DH can pick up LO some nights??

Well...80% of losing weight is diet...or so I've been told.  I am doing Slimgenics (it's in CO, MN, and CA, but I think they have an online program too.)  They guarantee 3-5 pounds lost a week, and it's pretty much follow a reasonable diet with a person to talk to that will hold you accountable. (Plus there's supplements and other stuff they peddle...I only get the snacks, herbal slim and carb blockers, because I can get a multi vitamin and omega a lot cheaper)  If I didn't have a husband bring home pizza and ice cream once or twice a week and had any sort of willpower I would be at my goal weight by now...however when I follow the plan I do lose at least 3 pounds a week (imagine that!).  So far I've lost 30 pounds...it's been 5 months. So I lost the baby weight, plus the 15 pounds I gained after having baby thinking I could eat whatever. So, I'm in my size 8 jeans...yay.  I still have 30 pounds to lose to be at my goal weight...but I'm looking forward to it.

I am stressing out about the holidays and how to not go overboard while out of town...

Good luck with whatever you choose though! :)

Oh, and I recommend Jillians shred for an at home workout.  It's only 20 minutes, there are three workouts, and you can add a second one if you want more.  I also like Windsor Pilates at home too. Other than that, just try to fit any activity in...if you have a good place to walk or a park nearby let LO be a part of it and watch mommy live a healthy lifestyle. :) When I wasn't a member of a gym because one wasn't nearby I would do the Pilates and run for 30 minutes in the morning and had some success that way too.

What helps me is have my favorite healthy foods on hand at all times, and I feel it's the little things that I stuck to that have helped me.

Right now my healthy addiction is oranges & bananas. If it was possible to OD on oranges, I totally would have last week :)  Summertimes it's spinach salads, tuna salad (non-fat mayo!), and melons.

When cooking, I add butter to veggies and pasta last, and do it only on FI & SS's plates, not mine. I up the sizes of starch & protein for the boys, and do more fruits and veggies for me (FI needs to actually gain wait.. lucky boat he's in...)

Plus, I take every opportunity I can get to be active with SS who's three. It helps that he has lots of energy, so he's a good motivator. I help him burn it off by racing around the house to get chores done ("I'm gunna beat you to the bathroom!"), and if he's just really antsy, we'll count to 30 and do jumping jacks.

DS loves to fly up in the air, so if I'm feeling lazy, I'll toss him around a bit. A live 25 pound weight really gets your heart beating quick!

GL.. hoping you find your healthy balance!

Is it an option to hit the gym after work, then pick LO up from DC?  I think that would work better than having LO see you and want to be home with you and then dropping them off in gym DC.

My friend is a nutritionist. It is not healthy to lose 3-5 pounds a week. Your goal should be 1-2 pounds ONLY. If you lose more than that, it is muscle and water weight and you could do harm to yourself. That said, I'd get a treadmill. That's what we did and find it so much easier.

I am sure she will have fun once we get to the gym but she is really clingy when I pick her up, so much so that sometimes she gets upset when I put her in the car seat to leave. Our contract with the inhome daycare provider is until four and DH can't get her by then. I was thinking about asking her if LO could stay later two days a week. If I ran Monday and Wednesday while she is already at daycare, then I can do my third day of running in the weekend.

That's funny. I've heard that before but yesterday I got something from my healthcare provider about a weight loss meal replacement plan that is monitored by a dr. It guarantees that you will lose 35 a week. The catch is that it is about 2000 upfront. That's not doable for us. So I started looking at other options.

My best bet is probably to get a treadmill so that I can run whenever without worrying about LO and daycare. I will check our local Craigslist. Thanks for the ideas, ladies!

I have a treadmill at my house and LOVE it.  I wouldn't workout otherwise.  We bought ours new for around $750 (have saved that much in gym memberships since we got it).  I WFH and run at lunch, but DH runs around 7:30/8:00 pm after dinner/dishes/bath has been done.

As far as weight loss.  I always have the best luck counting calories using the Lose It! or My Fitness Pal app (I personally like Lose It! better).  If you had sucesswith with WW, maybe you could do that online.  I've heard their app is really great, but you have to have a membership.

Welp, typically lose 1-2 pounds anyway as you can see on how much I've lost in the amount of time...and it's recommended program by doctors...so I'm sorry.

What about rejoining Weight Watchers? Otherwise, you could try one of those free calorie tracking sites like MyFitnessPal or SparkPeople.

Instead of moving your LO to a new "daycare" after work, what about leaving her there an extra hour or two and going straight to the gym from your school? That's what I would do. What works for me too is having DH do daycare pickup one dedicated day per week when I can do whatever I want: get my nails done, see friends, or most often EXERCISE!

Weekends are also my days for exercise. I hardly ever miss my Saturday and Sunday workouts.

ETA: I see you already addressed the daycare problem above.

Sparkpeople.com is a great tool if you have a little time throughout the day to log what you are eating.  Can you wake up early and do exercise videos in your living room? You can check some out of the library to see what kind you like best.
