sandboxes

does any one have one?

Do you love it or hate it?

we got DS1 a sand box for christmas but i really want to put like rubber sand or fine grit gravel in it

I am scared sand will just be everywhere and tracked in to my house is it not as bad as I am fearing?

We had a sandbox over the summer and G loved it, but I ended up getting rid of it. I read that a lot of the sands dust can cause cancer and is harmful if breathed in. It scared me, so no more sand for us. It was messy anyway.

I plan to make them a rock box in the spring for the pea gravel you can get at Lowes. Safer IMO and cleaner, plus my kids LOVE rocks!

We had one for 2 summers and I couldn't stand it. It was just too messy. I felt like we could only play with it in the morning and then have a bath before nap or after dinner and before normal bath time.

Both kids absolutely loved it and it was a huge hit. I just hated the clean up.

DD has one.  We got for her first birthday.  She wasn't a big fan at first despite loving the beach, but this past summer it was a big hit and she loved it.  It is messy but I didn't think it was that bad.  I would just dust her off or shake out her clothes before going inside and I didn't notice sand all over my house..

We have one and my son loves it. It's messy but I don't really care because we also have 2 English mastiffs that are tearing up the backyard

We have one and DD loves it. I don't find it that messy, I just swipe her butt off and we move on.

We have one and the boys love it.  The rule around here is that there is no sandbox play in the morning.  I don't want sand to get in there beds at nap time.  DS #2 is pretty messy with it.  He usually ends up with sand all up in his hair.  DS #1 isn't that messy anymore and loves to just dig in it.  Both boys get a shake down before coming back into the house after playing in the sandbox.  I do find it tracked in the house by the back door, but it isn't nothing my Shark vacuum can't handle.

We have a sandbox for B. She loves it. For the most part clean up isn't too bad. I just brush her off with soft bristle brush. She takes her shoes off before getting in. Yeah I do get some sand in my house but it isn't a big deal to me. I swiffer once per day anyway.

We have one of the turtle sandboxes and the girls both really like it (well they did, we took the lid off during Sandy so it wouldn't blow away and now the sandbox is more of a swamp box).  You learn fast where the sand can hide (inside shoes and socks, inside pockets, inside rolled up pants/sleeves) and shake those out before you go back in the house.  We don't have a problem with tracking in sand and I would actually LOVE to get them a bigger sandbox if I could figure out a way to cover it.

We have one with a cover to keep neighborhood cats out of it. DD doesn't play in it a whole lot because we have a serious mosquito problem here, and we just don't love playing outside. We take her shoes off for her to play and just let her shake really good before coming inside. We haven't had any messes so far and she loves it, especially after getting home from vacation and missing the beach.

We love ours.  We got Lucy a big crab shaped one from Babies R Us a year or so ago and it's great.  Sand does not get tracked in our house - but we always keep the cover on it when she's not in it to keep the sand dry.  and you should replace the sand every year.

The only time I see any sand is when I pull off her socks to take a bath after being in her sandbox during the day.  Then a little sand will sprinkle out!  She LOVES it and it's wonderful to sit outside with her and just let her play in the sandbox.  You'll love it!

thanks I am glad so many had good things to day, I know he is going to go nuts when he sees it christmas morning. He even managned to ask santa for Dirt LOL because he loves to play in the sand, mulch and any dirt he can find.

DH said i was over thinking it, I am sure I am but I just know at the beach sand gets everywhere. uh and i hate that, i think that must be in part from being wet from the ocean.

I am so excited to see is reaction christmas morning, especially since we are in florida there will only be a few weeks that it wont be a usable toy. YKWIM
