It could mean she has low tone. My ds always had his tounge out like that. At 9mo he was evaluated bc he would not eat much pure or bottles. He now has a therapist once a week and no more tounge issues.

Interesting...

DS loves to have his tongue out too, I thought it was more playing with is new teeth. But now that you mention a therapist, I wonder if it has to do with his eating problems - he gags on anything textured, the instant it hits his tongue.

My daughter has been like this since birth (she is 10 months now).  At her 6 month appointment I asked the doctor about it.  His response:  "She'll stop sticking it out eventually.  When she's 3 and some kid says 'why is your tongue out all the time?' she'll stop."

I'm not trying to worry you my pedi never noticed it but sent us to be evaluated by early intervention bc he wasn't eating things he should and wasn't gaining weight. As soon as the therapy team saw a photo of him they knew he had low tone. You can build your muscles up so you over come the issue...3 months of therapy once a week and he is a new boy.
