"No exercise"

Does anyone know why some doctors say no exercise until 6 weeks postpartum? My dr last time didn't mention that at all, but this time it was in my discharge instructions.

I would really love to be able to fit back into my jeans since I only have one pair of maternity pants. I was way more toned prior to this pregnancy, and I just want my body back already.

Birthing a kid is seriously tough on your body. I had a vaginaly delivery both times, and was told 'no exercise for 2 weeks, light walking only until 6 week check up.' This time I had much more serious tearing 3rd degree and was told 'strict rest for 2 weeks, no exercise until 6 week checkup.' The more you push your body the longer it will take to heal, tearing or no tearing. If doc said no exercise, I would stick with that. If you feel really good 2 or 3 weeks PP, maybe call your doc and see if you can start light activity.

There is a large wound left behind by the placenta after you have a baby (this goes for both vaginal and c-section deliveries), hence all the bleeding.  Your body needs time to heal that wound, and therefore going overboard with exercise would not give you the time to do so.  Also, your body needs to adjust all of your insides to get back into place and your uterus needs to shrink back down to normal size.

Walking is allowed, so maybe you can stick to that for now until you are cleared to work out.  Also, of course, watching what you eat (but make sure you eat/drink enough if you are BFing, so that you don't affect your supply and are getting the nutrients you need).
